The chapter opens with the standard fiction disclaimer, followed by narration explaining Han-rim’s dual role:
IM HAN LIM IS CURRENTLY ASSIGNED TO DISPATCH JOBS
BUT HER FORMAL PROFESSION IS THAT OF A SPECIAL FORCES SERGEANT.
AND SOLDIERS DON’T TURN OFF THEIR PHONES TO PREPARE FOR EMERGENCIES.
Hwa-jin studies his unanswered phone and reaches the only conclusion consistent with her discipline.
THIS WITHOUT A DOUBT MEANS…!
THERE IS A SITUATION!
The page cuts back to the cult’s confinement area.
Han-rim turns captivity into an interrogation¶
Han-rim is bound and bloodied but remains composed. The cult leader comes close under the pretense of examining her wounds. She immediately names the legal stakes.
WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU’RE DOING?
DO YOU STILL NOT UNDERSTAND THE SITUATION YOU’RE IN?
YOU’VE ALREADY ASSAULTED AND RESTRAINED A PUBLIC OFFICIAL WORKING DIRECTLY UNDER THE MINISTER.
AND NOW YOU WANT TO ADD RAPE TO THE LIST OF CHARGES?
YOU’VE SET YOURSELF UP FOR LIFE IMPRISONMENT.
The leader recoils and claims innocence.

The pastor rejects the premise.

Han-rim, exhausted by the delusion, answers:

The forced resignation document¶
The pastor proposes an absurd “settlement”: the cult will describe the previous day as Han-rim attacking them, while she signs a resignation letter announcing conversion.
AND A FEW OF OUR OWN HAVE BEEN INJURED BY YOU, SO LET’S JUST MOVE ON FROM THIS…
AND AS AN ADDITION…
A prepared document is displayed. It identifies Han-rim as a special-team sergeant and Teachers’ Rights Agency field supervisor. The body claims that she has encountered difficulties, found “the door of truth,” wishes to resign, and wants to live with a clear conscience. It is addressed to senior military and education officials.
Han-rim explodes:
ARE YOU SCREWING WITH ME?!
The pastor praises the very qualities he is attempting to steal from her identity.
YOU MAY BE AN ADVOCATE OF THE DEVIL, BUT THAT WORK ETHIC AND SENSE OF JUSTICE OF YOURS ARE WORTHY OF PRAISE.
WHY DON’T YOU CONVERT AND USE THAT SENSE OF JUSTICE OF YOURS FOR A HOLIER PURPOSE?
Han-rim answers with contempt.
IT’S NOT LIKE I’VE LIVED THAT LONG YET, BUT YOU TRULY ARE A ONE-OF-A-KIND PSYCHO.
HEY~ ARE YOU REALLY SO STUPID THAT YOU’D THINK I’LL SIGN THIS?
OR… ARE YOU GOING TO TORTURE ME UNTIL I DO?
GO ON~ DO YOUR WORST~
I CAN EASILY ENDURE TORTURE FROM AN AMATEUR UNTIL MY SUNBAE ARRIVES.
The pastor insists:
WE WOULDN’T DO SOMETHING SO BARBARIC.
The claim is immediately disproved.
Public “prayer” at the school¶
The cult gathers adults and children outdoors at the school. The pastor addresses them from a lectern.
GREETINGS, BLESSED ONES.
YOU MAY HAVE HEARD, BUT YESTERDAY WITHIN THE ORDER WE HAD A TROUBLING EVENT OCCUR, SO WE’VE DECIDED TO HOST PRAYERS AT THE SCHOOL.
REGARDING THE TROUBLING EVENT, ONE OF THE SAINTS BECAME CORRUPTED…
Han-rim and Ju-hee are tied to chairs or posts in front of the congregation. Han-rim thinks bitterly:
“WOULDN’T DO SOMETHING SO BARBARIC” MY ASS! TYING PEOPLE UP… THESE BASTARDS!
The pastor announces:
FOLLOWING THIS, WE SHALL PERFORM THE HIGHEST FORM OF EXORCISM,
THE THRASHING.
LET THE FIRST PARTICIPANTS COME.
Han-rim decides to endure temporarily because Hwa-jin may arrive quickly.
LET’S BEAR IT FOR NOW.
HWA JIN SUNBAE HAS GOOD SENSE, SO HE MIGHT EVEN BE ABLE TO ARRIVE TODAY.
Ju-hee’s parents perform the beating¶
Adults approach Ju-hee carrying switches or rods. Han-rim shouts:
HEY! IF YOU’RE GOING TO HIT SOMEONE, IT SHOULD BE ME!
The pastor corrects her terminology.
HITTING? THIS ISN’T SOMETHING AS BARBARIC AS HITTING.
LORD’S NEW TESTAMENT, CHAPTER 15 VERSE 29… SO HE THRASHED THE SINNER.
THIS IS AN EXORCISM DESCRIBED WITHIN THE NEW TESTAMENT.
AS YOU ARE NOT A SAINT, YOU DO NOT DESERVE TO BE EXORCISED.
Han-rim appeals to the crowd.
HEY! DON’T JUST STARE AND DO SOMETHING!
ARE HER PARENTS NOT AMONG YOU?

The pastor reveals the horror:
THE VERY ONES PERFORMING THE THRASHING ARE SAINT JU HEE’S PARENTS.
Ju-hee’s mother and father strike her while shouting that the devil must leave. Ju-hee cries:
MOM, DAD… STOP!
The cult explains that relatives must lead the punishment because “the devil’s influence” clings to blood relations.
THE FAMILY OF THE AFFLICTED MUST SPEARHEAD THE EXORCISM FOR THE GREATEST EFFECT.
The parents, visibly indoctrinated, continue despite their daughter’s injuries.
Han-rim breaks psychologically before she breaks free¶
Han-rim watches Ju-hee lose consciousness under repeated blows. She thinks:
ARE ALL CULTS THIS HORRIFIC?
A CHILD STABBING PEOPLE WITHOUT HESITATION
AND MAKING THEM CRAZY ENOUGH TO FORGET ABOUT ANY MORALS!
She screams:
STOP IT! SHE’S LOST CONSCIOUSNESS! SHE’LL DIE AT THIS RATE!
The pastor refuses.
THERE’S NOTHING THAT CAN BE DONE.
YOU’VE CORRUPTED SAINT JU HEE TO THE GREATEST DEGREE.
AS LONG AS THE ROOT OF SIN IS ALIVE, NO AMOUNT OF THRASHING WOULD WORK ON HER.
Han-rim understands that the cult will not stop unless she gives them the symbolic victory they want.
YOU SHOULD’VE JUST SAID THAT FROM THE START, YOU BASTARDS…
I’LL SIGN THE RESIGNATION!
I’LL SIGN IT, SO THRASH ME OR CONVERT ME, DO WHATEVER YOU WANT!
The pastor declares it a miracle and orders her right hand freed so she can sign.
THE ADVOCATE OF SATAN, THE CRIMSON WITCH, HAS BECOME PURIFIED THROUGH SAINT JU HEE’S EXORCISM.
FREE HER RIGHT HAND.
He presents a blue pen.
THIS IS THE HOLY PEN USED IN THE WRITINGS OF THE LORD’S NEW TESTAMENT.
THROW ASIDE YOUR SINFUL PAST
AND BEGIN YOUR NEW LIFE OF HOLINESS.
Han-rim takes the pen without expression.
The pen becomes a hostage weapon¶
Instead of signing, Han-rim snaps or separates the pen, drives its sharp point into the pastor’s neck, and tackles him to the ground. Blood sprays across his collar. She pins him between her knees and keeps the improvised spike embedded beside the carotid artery.
Cultists surge forward, shouting:
YOU FUCKING BITCH…!
STAY RIGHT WHERE YOU ARE!
Han-rim snarls back:
RIGHT NOW I’VE PIERCED YOUR LEADER’S CAROTID ARTERY!
IF I TAKE THIS OUT, HE DIES!
The chapter closes on Han-rim, still bruised and restrained at one side, nevertheless controlling the entire congregation through a precise anatomical threat. Her supposed surrender was a calculated move to free one hand and create leverage.
