Hwa-jin reaches the compound¶
The chapter opens with scanlation support information and the standard fiction disclaimer. The cult leader, still lying injured in the road, raises a hand toward the approaching Na Hwa-jin.

Hwa-jin explains how he found her. He contacted Seo Yeon from the emergency helpline and learned Han-rim had been investigating a cult that portrayed public schooling as evil.

Hwa-jin agrees that a civil servant cannot do such a thing. Han-rim produces the resignation document that the cult prepared.

I OFFICIALLY TENDER MY RESIGNATION.
Hwa-jin formally accepts it on the spot.

He then turns to the pastor.

Han-rim refuses to stop. She wants repayment for the previous day and mockingly thanks him for providing the resignation letter that removed her official constraints.

She applies military interrogation techniques that cause excruciating pain without leaving visible wounds. The pastor begs to be allowed to dissolve the cult.

Hwa-jin marvels at the technique. Narration explains that even resilient enemies once begged Han-rim to kill them; this is why her field codename is Baba Yaga.
A staged revelation¶
The next morning, the pastor stands before the congregation seemingly unharmed. He thanks the saints for their prayers and claims their faith caused divine intervention.
COULD IT BE THAT YOUR PRAYERS AND MINE HAVE REACHED THE LORD?
THE DEVILS WHO TERRORISED US YESTERDAY HAVE BEEN PURIFIED!
He claims that while held in a windowless room, a ray of light appeared and God spoke to him.
ANGELS SHALL DESCEND, AND CLEANSE ALL EVIL.
BEAR WITNESS, YOUNG LAMB, FOR ALL SIN SHALL BE CLEANSED FROM THIS WORLD.
Han-rim watches from behind and quietly warns him to continue correctly.
GOOD, KEEP ON GOING. TRY ANYTHING FUNNY AND YOU KNOW WHAT WE’LL DO TO YOU.
Hwa-jin explains that simply exposing the pastor as a con artist would fail. Followers would assume he had been threatened. They must work inside the cult’s own logic.
WE NEED TO STOOP TO THEIR LEVEL AND FOLLOW THEIR LOGIC TO TRULY DISPERSE THIS CULT.
The pastor declares that evil has vanished, so the believers no longer need to remain in the confined “paradise.” He announces that they must leave for the wider world and that this is their final congregation.
The dissolution fails¶
Some believers reject the announcement.

Han-rim wonders whether the pastor secretly signaled them. Hwa-jin realizes he misjudged the structure.
I MISJUDGED THE SITUATION.
THE REASON BEHIND THIS PSEUDO-RELIGION LASTING SO LONG WASN’T BRAINWASHING OR A DOCTRINE.

The chapter ends on that diagnosis. The congregation does not cling merely to a leader or theology; it clings to the community as an escape from ordinary life. Removing the pastor cannot remove the need the cult has been serving.
