Opening — Na accepts the wager¶
The chapter resumes in the instant after Yang Kwan-hyeok’s hammer collides with Na Hwa-jin’s baton.
Na’s arm holds against the impact. His eyes sharpen and his mouth curls into an excited smile.
“RIGHT.”
“IT SHOULD BE LIKE THIS…”
“SO THE LESSON WILL BE MORE INTERESTING.”
Kwan-hyeok sets the terms:
“DON’T TAKE BACK YOUR WORDS!”
“IF YOU LOSE, GET OUT FROM HERE.”
Na answers that he will leave because he would be too ashamed to remain:
“I’LL LEAVE BECAUSE OF SHAME!”
“SATISFIED?”
Kwan-hyeok says he will help him leave.
The first exchange¶
Kwan-hyeok lunges.
The hammer’s long handle and heavy head let him attack from outside ordinary punching distance. Na avoids the first arc, but the weapon continues through its momentum and forces him to reposition.
The next sequence is drawn with broad black speed lines. The hammer strikes walls or floor, sending fragments and dust outward.
Na is clipped or driven backward. Kwan-hyeok follows rather than allowing space.
Students watch with growing excitement. For the first time since Na arrived, someone appears capable of forcing him to defend continuously.
A direct strike lands hard enough to send Na through the frame.
Two years earlier — Kwan-hyeok creates the legend¶
The chapter moves into flashback.
Yang Kwan-hyeok entered Sanmaeg two years earlier.
During the first-year ranking battles, he defeated not only classmates but older students. Second- and third-years were shown on the ground around him while he remained standing.
He became the school’s highest-ranking fighter across all three grade levels.
His reputation spread beyond the campus.
Students from neighboring schools discussed Sanmaeg’s new first-year monster. Kwan-hyeok began attacking or absorbing rival groups, turning school pride into territorial dominance.
The local delinquents gave his organization a name rendered by the scanlation as the Gunnmong Team.
Sanmaeg became the strongest school in the area.
Kwan-hyeok’s rule did not end at the gate. Older graduates and street groups continued to operate in the school’s name. Violence became tradition, and tradition became the standard by which later students measured themselves.
The present fight becomes a rally¶
Back in the gym, older followers recognize Kwan-hyeok’s return.
They cheer his name and speak as though the old order has finally come home.
Kwan-hyeok’s presence destabilizes Na’s new system even before he wins or loses. Students who had begun following the grade hierarchy remember the excitement and pride attached to the old legend.
Kwan-hyeok attacks again, using kicks and the hammer in combination.
Lee Hong-seong attempts to involve himself and is struck aside.
Kim Hyeung-joo, protected by the “king” rules, shouts insults and treats the fight as payback against the people who tormented him.
The gym becomes divided between students who want the old hierarchy restored and students who have begun benefiting from the new one.
Kwan-hyeok confronts Jo Hong-gi¶
Kwan-hyeok grabs Jo Hong-gi.
He berates the younger leader for failing to settle the situation and calls him powerless.
Hong-gi explains that he had intended to rebuild the area’s dominance after Kwan-hyeok returned. The new ranking system was supposed to train stronger fighters and prepare another campaign.
He says the old legend of the Gunnmong Team could be destroyed and replaced by a new one.
The exchange reveals that Hong-gi did not reject Kwan-hyeok’s values. He wanted to inherit and modernize them.
Na laughs at the “legend”¶
Na begins laughing.
He says Kwan-hyeok wants to become a legend, yet fights terribly.
Hyeung-joo joins the laughter awkwardly from his protected position.
Kwan-hyeok’s expression darkens:
“DON’T MAKE FUN OF ME!”
The insult attacks the foundation of his identity. He can tolerate pain more easily than the suggestion that his legend is childish.
He charges Na with greater force.
Na teaches action and reaction¶
The next exchange is more technical.
Na blocks, redirects, and counters.
He explains that the more force Kwan-hyeok produces, the more force returns through impact. The dialogue explicitly invokes Newton’s third law: action and reaction.
Kwan-hyeok’s powerful style depends on committing his entire body. Na uses that commitment to damage him.
Na expands the idea beyond physics:
- People who worship money are destroyed by money.
- People who rely on power are destroyed by power.
- People who rule through strength are taught through strength.
He calls this:
“THE LAW OF TRUE EDUCATION.”
The lesson is tailored to Kwan-hyeok. The same physical certainty that made him a legend becomes the mechanism of his defeat.
Broken ribs¶
Kwan-hyeok continues trying to fight, but his body stops responding normally.
Na observes that his ribs are cracked.
He estimates that Kwan-hyeok will be unable to fight properly for two or three weeks.
The diagnosis is delivered calmly while Kwan-hyeok struggles to breathe.
His followers stare in disbelief. The legend has not simply lost; his body has been placed outside the hierarchy he created.
The king’s new servant¶
Na turns toward Hyeung-joo.
He addresses him as king and announces Kwan-hyeok’s new role.
From now on, the former number one will serve as Hyeung-joo’s personal servant.
The order is designed to make Kwan-hyeok experience the bottom of his own ranking system.
Hyeung-joo reacts with alarm rather than triumph. The person ordered to carry his belongings is the most dangerous student in the school.
Kwan-hyeok’s expression is blank with rage.
The chapter ends on the reversal: the founder of Sanmaeg’s violent hierarchy is placed beneath the student that hierarchy treated as worthless.
Chapter-level observations¶
1. Kwan-hyeok’s real power is cultural¶
His physical ability matters, but the flashback shows a deeper threat. Students organized their identities around the legend he created.
2. Na wins by matching the lesson to the student¶
The physics explanation is not decorative. Kwan-hyeok’s greatest strength—total commitment to force—creates his vulnerability.
3. Hong-gi is revealed as an inheritor, not a reformer¶
His ranking plan was still meant to produce stronger gang fighters. Na’s academic caste system only superficially resembled Hong-gi’s project; its purpose is the opposite.
4. Servitude is a moral mirror¶
Making Kwan-hyeok serve Hyeung-joo converts an abstract explanation about oppression into daily embodied experience.
