Scope¶
This transcription follows all 26 ordered reader images in Chapter 123. The chapter alternates between Hwa-jin’s explanation of why Sera was recruited and Sera’s violent nighttime confrontation with Lee Chiho.
Sequence 1 — Hwa-jin checks on the rookie¶
A female colleague contacts Hwa-jin and asks whether he is doing well with Gu Sera. He says she is performing better than expected. Her physique is excellent and, because she is close to the students’ age, her understanding of them may exceed that of older agents.
He remains concerned that she is reckless or simply thoughtless. The colleague asks why he deliberately chose someone so thug-like merely because she attended a troubled school.
Hwa-jin says that background was important but not the only reason.
Sequence 2 — Chiho attacks at night¶
At night, Lee Chiho confronts Sera with a concealed weapon. Sera initially assumes he is bluffing, comparing him to Jongsoo and other delinquents who threaten stabbing but cannot cross the final psychological threshold.
Chiho proves different. He fires or thrusts a ballistic knife, launching the blade with almost no hesitation. Sera is struck and blood spreads across her clothing.
She stares at the wound in disbelief—not because she fears the injury, but because Chiho actually attacked without the pause she expected.
WHOA, SO THIS BASTARD IS A REAL PSYCHOPATH…
SO YOU’RE GOING TO STAB ME WITHOUT A SINGLE OUNCE OF HESITATION?
Sera immediately insults him again, asking whether psychopaths are even trashier than ordinary cowards.
Sequence 3 — Chiho’s history of compulsion¶
The chapter enters Chiho’s perspective. Adults once asked why he struck another student with a chair. He explained that he has always been unable to control himself when he desires something.
If he wanted to drive, he stole a car. If he needed money, he stole it. If someone refused an invitation, he attacked. His behavior is shown not as a momentary loss of temper but as a lifelong pattern of treating desire as permission.
During juvenile detention, he was evaluated using a psychopathy/sociopathy scale. The diagnosis identified antisocial or sociopathic personality traits—summarized in the dialogue as “psychopath.”
Rather than frightening him, the label made him feel relieved.

The diagnosis becomes another excuse absolving him of responsibility.
Sequence 4 — The ballistic knife¶
The knife’s unusual mechanism surprises the observing agent, who jokes about Chiho being a blacksmith or having found the weapon in a video game. Chiho admits he aimed for Sera’s heart but found accurate aiming difficult.
Sera closes distance despite the wound. Chiho panics and warns her not to come closer. When he asks whether she is finally scared, the balance visibly changes: his aggression depends on victims retreating, and Sera is still advancing.
The supervising agent arrives and sees Sera being struck one-sidedly. She prepares to intervene.
Sera orders her not to.

The public humiliation, the witnesses, and Chiho’s loss of control were all designed to make the school realize he is not untouchable. If an adult rescues Sera now, he can preserve the myth by claiming she only survived through authority.
Sequence 5 — “A real psychopath”¶
Sera asks Chiho whether he ever considered that the person he was provoking might be a genuine psychopath. Her expression becomes more frightening than his. The chapter reverses the label: Chiho uses “psychopath” to justify impulsive cruelty, while Sera uses overwhelming control and charisma to make violent students obey.
Chiho’s confidence breaks. The fight becomes one-sided. He begs to be saved.
Narration returns to Gangsan High. Before Sera, it was repeatedly featured in the news as the country’s worst school. During her three years there, however, not a single incident or accident became public.
The reason was not institutional reform in the conventional sense. It was Sera’s overwhelming charisma: even problematic students had no choice but to follow her.
Standing over Chiho, bloodied but dominant, she gives one final command:
NEVER FUCK WITH ME AGAIN.
Sequence 6 — The deeper recruitment reason¶
The chapter completes Hwa-jin’s earlier explanation. Sera’s value is not simply that she understands delinquents or possesses extraordinary strength. She can establish authority inside a violent peer culture without relying first on adult status, formal law, or fear of an external agency.
That capacity is dangerous and difficult to manage, but it can reach students who regard every ordinary teacher or investigator as distant and temporary.
The chapter closes with Sera still standing after the stabbing and Chiho psychologically defeated.
End-of-chapter continuity note¶
Chapter 123 distinguishes diagnosis from destiny. Chiho embraces the word “psychopath” as permission to obey every impulse. Sera, whose behavior can appear equally extreme, exercises deliberate strategic control: she accepts injury to complete the collapse of his school-wide authority. The physical cost of that choice leads directly to her hospitalization in Chapter 124.
