Get Schooled — Chapter 129¶
Complete Detailed Panel-by-Panel Transcription¶
Scope¶
This transcription follows all 53 ordered image strips in the supplied Chapter 129 archive. The scanlation’s readable English dialogue is preserved, including awkward grammar and punctuation. Korean sound effects are described according to their visible action when no official English rendering is provided.
Content note¶
The chapter depicts coercive studying, emotional abuse, threats with a kitchen knife, and a violent hypothetical vision of a child attacking a parent.
Images 001–004 — Na locks the mother inside Hyunmin’s study room¶
Hyunmin’s mother pounds against the locked study-room door.
HEY! WON’T YOU OPEN THIS UP?!
She clenches her fists and shouts through the wood:
WHY DO I HAVE TO STUDY AT THIS AGE?!
Outside, Na Hwa-jin ignores the protest and uses a power drill on the door. A loud Korean drilling sound effect fills the frame.
He attaches an additional heavy padlock and locking mechanism, making escape impossible.
A sheet of paper is then pushed beneath the door.
HERE’S YOUR SCHEDULE, MOM.
Inside, she looks down in confusion:
?!
WHAT IS THIS…?
Images 005–008 — The exact schedule she created for Hyunmin¶
She unfolds the paper and recognizes a densely handwritten timetable. It divides the entire day into tightly controlled study blocks, meals, brief maintenance periods, and only minimal rest.
AH…
THIS IS HYUNMIN’S TIMETABLE?!
Na speaks from the hallway:
YOU KNOW IT WELL, RIGHT? THE “STUDY TIMETABLE” YOU PERSONALLY MADE FOR HYUNMIN.
CERTAINLY, IF FOLLOWED PRECISELY, ANYONE CAN GET INTO MEDICAL SCHOOL OR ANYWHERE ELSE.
SINCE YOU MADE IT, MOM, YOU CAN DEFINITELY DO IT!
She stares at the schedule with disbelief as Na offers an exaggerated cheer:
FIGHTING!
Images 009–012 — Her excuses are mirrored back at her¶
The series title card appears.
The mother rips or tears at study materials in rage, shouting:
STOP JOKING! WHY SHOULD I DO THIS?!
WHAT DID I DO SO WRONG?!
She screams that her actions came from good intentions:
I JUST WANTED HYUNMIN TO SUCCEED!
Na answers through the door:
I FEEL THE SAME WAY. I JUST WANT YOU TO SUCCEED, MOM.
She snaps:
WHO ARE YOU TO TELL ME?!
Na raises three fingers:
MOCK EXAM AVERAGE SCORE: 30.
The new rule is clear: she will not be released merely because she wants to stop.
Images 013–016 — A conditional promise¶
Na explains:
I’D LIKE TO SUPPORT YOU UNTIL YOU GET INTO MEDICAL SCHOOL,
BUT I HAVE MY OWN JOB AND CAN’T DEDICATE THAT MUCH TIME.
IF YOU SCORE AN AVERAGE OF 30, IT SHOWS YOU’RE READY TO STUDY,
He promises:
AND I’LL TRUST YOU AND NOT INTERFERE WITH THIS HOUSEHOLD’S ISSUES ANYMORE.
The mother repeats the low target:
30 POINTS…?
Her confidence returns. She remembers that she once performed far better:
WHAT DO YOU THINK OF ME…
I USED TO SCORE AT LEAST AN AVERAGE OF 70 IN SCHOOL.
She slams her hand onto a stack of workbooks.
JUST 30 POINTS, RIGHT?
Images 017–020 — Hyunmin’s hidden writing¶
While opening or sorting Hyunmin’s books, she discovers handwritten notes in the margins.
WHAT’S THIS? DID HYUNMIN WRITE THIS?
One line reads:
I WANT TO SLEEP AND PLAY, HOWEVER I WANT FOR A DAY.
Another note says:
I SCREWED UP MY MOCK EXAM BADLY. MOM’S GOING TO KILL ME.
Additional fragments express exhaustion, fading confidence, and uncertainty about medical school:
I’M SLOWLY LOSING CONFIDENCE…
WHY DO I HAVE TO GO TO MEDICAL SCHOOL? CAN I EVEN GO?
The mother is briefly shaken. She realizes the severity of Hyunmin’s fear:
HE’S IN SUCH A STATE OF MIND THAT I EVEN BOUGHT HIM MEDICINE!
Rather than accepting responsibility, she reframes the discovery as another reason to prove the schedule works.
YES!
I’LL SHOW YOU!
IF I SHOW THAT I CAN DO IT…
Images 021–024 — Her first results are disastrous¶
She studies feverishly, thinking:
HYUNMIN WILL BE MOTIVATED TOO!
A Korean stomach or fatigue sound effect accompanies her collapsing over the desk.
The first batch of mock-exam sheets returns with extremely low red scores, including single digits and marks in the teens and twenties.
Na sits across from her at the dining table:
HMM… THIS IS UNFORTUNATE.
IT FEELS LIKE YOU’RE ALMOST THERE…
He smiles brightly rather than releasing her:
IT’S BEEN A WHILE SINCE YOU’VE DONE THIS, SO IT MIGHT TAKE SOME TIME TO GET BACK INTO THE GROOVE.
LET’S GIVE IT ONE MORE TRY! FIGHTING!
The mother’s face contorts with disbelief.
Images 025–028 — Even the door requires a passing score¶
She slams both hands on the table:
ENOUGH! I WON’T DO IT ANYMORE!
WHY DO I HAVE TO DO THIS?!
She bolts toward the door.
SERIOUSLY, THIS IS RIDICULOUS…
Then she freezes. The inside of the room now has a digital keypad lock.
UH…?
WHAT’S THIS?!
WHY IS THERE A PASSWORD INSIDE?!
Na watches with mock disappointment:
TSK TSK… YOU SHOULDN’T GIVE UP SO SOON IF YOU WANT TO GO TO MEDICAL SCHOOL…
Images 029–031 — The score becomes the escape code¶
Na claps his hands encouragingly:
COME ON, EVEN IF YOU WANT TO RUN AWAY, OR WANT TO STOP,
IT’S OKAY! EVERYONE HAS THOSE THOUGHTS SOMETIMES!
He reveals the condition:
IF YOU SCORE OVER 30 ON THE MOCK EXAM, I’LL TELL YOU THE PASSWORD.
NOW, GO BACK IN AND STUDY.
She glares at him, then returns to the desk and resumes working.
Images 032–037 — Memories of how she policed Hyunmin¶
As she studies, memories replay in monochrome.
During her own third year of high school, a parent catches her reading comics:
HEY, ARE YOU READING COMICS AGAIN? AREN’T YOU STUDYING?
AH, JUST ONE BOOK, THEN I’LL STUDY.
The memory shifts to her treatment of Hyunmin.
She catches him holding a phone:
HYUNMIN… WERE YOU PLAYING WITH YOUR PHONE INSTEAD OF STUDYING?
NO… JUST REPLYING TO A MESSAGE FROM A FRIEND…
NO PHONES WHILE STUDYING!
She grabs the device away.
Another memory shows him trying to leave:
HEY! YOU HAVE MIDTERMS NEXT WEEK, WHERE ARE YOU GOING?!
AH, JUST GOING OUT FOR A BIT!
She blocks him again:
WHERE ARE YOU GOING WITHOUT STUDYING?!
AH, JUST TO THE BATHROOM…
DIDN’T I SAY ONLY ONCE EVERY FOUR HOURS?! WHAT ABOUT DURING EXAMS?!
She berates his grades and intelligence:
WHY ARE YOUR GRADES LIKE THIS?!
OH, IT’S BECAUSE MOM GAVE BIRTH TO A NOT-SO-SMART CHILD, ISN’T IT?!
ISN’T IT BECAUSE YOU LACK EFFORT?! EFFORT!!
A final memory shows Hyunmin asleep at his desk.
AH, FORGET IT~ I’LL DO IT TOMORROW…
She wakes him:
IT’S ONLY 2 AM, AND YOU’RE SLEEPY?!
The repetition reveals that the prison-like schedule was not a metaphor. Hyunmin’s food, bathroom use, sleep, movement, and contact with friends were all treated as obstacles to achievement.
Images 038–040 — She finally passes 30¶
Back in the present, the mother continues studying with a grim, emptied expression.
A new set of marked papers shows improved scores, many now in the thirties and forties, with one above fifty.
Na sits opposite her beside several apples:
WOW~ FINALLY, YOU SCORED OVER 30.
SEE? YOU CAN DO IT IF YOU TRY!
He begins peeling an apple.
AS A REWARD, I’LL PEEL AN APPLE FOR YOU.
Images 041–044 — The target moves again¶
The mother refuses the reward:
ENOUGH.
JUST TELL ME THE PASSWORD. I NEED TO GO TO HYUNMIN…
WHERE IS HYUNMIN NOW?
Na calmly continues peeling.
HERE, HAVE ONE.
She slams the table:
JUST TELL ME THE PASSWORD ALREADY!
Na raises an open hand in surprise.
?!
Then he cheerfully announces:
NOW WE AIM FOR 50 POINTS.
The mother stares:
50 POINTS…?
Images 045–048 — Na imitates conditional parental “support”¶
She explodes:
ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! ARE YOU PLAYING WITH ME?!
Na feigns innocence:
OH, WHY WOULD I DO THAT?
He offers her a slice of apple:
THERE’S NO TIME. HURRY UP AND EAT, THEN GO BACK TO STUDYING.
SEEING HOW MUCH YOU’VE IMPROVED, I CAN’T HELP BUT SUPPORT YOU.
I’M EVEN THINKING OF QUITTING MY JOB TO SUPPORT YOU UNTIL YOU GET INTO MEDICAL SCHOOL.
She stands rigidly against a dark background as he repeats the language parents often use to disguise control:
JUST ACCEPT IT GRACIOUSLY.
THIS IS ALL FOR YOUR GOOD.
Her mouth twitches.
HA…
She reaches for a kitchen knife.
DARE TO PLAY WITH ME?!
TELL ME THE PASSWORD, QUICK!
Images 049–052 — The threat of violence¶
The mother plants one hand on the table and brandishes the knife at Na.
IT’S NOT A JOKE… IF YOU DON’T TELL ME, I’LL KILL YOU!
WE DON’T HAVE TIME! THE COLLEGE ENTRANCE EXAM IS SOON!
I NEED TO GO TO HYUNMIN!
She charges.
I NEED TO MAKE HYUNMIN STUDY!!
Na instantly catches and bends her knife arm, forcing her off balance and striking or pinning her against the floor/table area.
He looks down at her:
THIS IS WHAT HYUNMIN’S FUTURE LOOKS LIKE.
Image 053 — The point of the exercise¶
Na pulls her ear while she lies restrained, his expression calm and mercilessly clear.
NOW YOU UNDERSTAND HOW STRESSFUL FORCED STUDYING CAN BE.
YOU UNDERSTAND IT WELL NOW, DON’T YOU?
A stylized hypothetical image follows: Hyunmin, driven beyond endurance, swings a bloodied object or fist toward his mother. Blood sprays across the frame.
Na warns:
IF THINGS CONTINUE THIS WAY,
HYUNMIN MIGHT EVEN END UP HARMING YOU.
The YLAB logo closes the chapter.
Chapter-level continuity notes¶
The lesson reproduces the mother’s system instead of merely describing it¶
Na does not ask her to imagine Hyunmin’s exhaustion. He imposes the same schedule, locks her in the same study space, controls when she may stop, and makes escape conditional on performance. The tactic is intentionally harsh because verbal evidence—including Hyunmin’s overdose and self-harm—failed to move her.
The target continually shifts¶
She is promised release at an average score of 30. Once she reaches it, Na changes the target to 50. This mirrors the unstable reward structure Hyunmin lived under: achievement never produced freedom because every success became the baseline for the next demand.
Hyunmin’s notes expose terror, not laziness¶
His hidden writing does not express indifference to the exam. It expresses fear of failure, longing for one free day, fading confidence, and uncertainty that medical school is even his dream. The mother initially sees the notes, but quickly converts them into another motivational project.
Her knife attack proves Na’s warning¶
After a relatively short period under forced study, the mother becomes violent toward the person controlling her. Na uses that reaction to make the consequence explicit: a child trapped for years could eventually retaliate against the parent who built the prison.
“Support” has become coercion¶
Na repeatedly says he is helping, rewarding, encouraging, and acting for her good. His cheerful mimicry exposes how benevolent language can conceal domination when the supposed beneficiary is denied rest, choice, privacy, and the right to stop.
