Images 001–006 — The drug case becomes national news¶
A news broadcast reports:

A short-haired young woman in a purple varsity jacket bursts in with a salute and broad grin:

She congratulates Na and Hanrim:

Hanrim corrects her:

Hanrim then asks:
SO, WAS THE ORIENTATION FOR NEW RECRUITS FUN?
Sera clutches her head:
AH, DON’T EVEN MENTION IT! IT WAS SO FRUSTRATING!
She recalls hearing other civil servants disparage the agency and its educational requirements:

A pale hand catches her fist before it lands.

The man holding Sera’s punch is Daniel Hyun, newly arrived from the United States. His silver hair, round glasses, and green eyes make him instantly recognizable.
He says calmly:
THIS IS DANGEROUS.
Sera recoils:
HUH…? WHO ARE YOU?
Daniel bows politely:
I SINCERELY THANK YOU, SENIORS, FOR PASSING ME.
I AM THE NEW INSPECTOR, HYUN DANIEL.
Na and Hanrim are surprised that he has arrived so quickly.
WHAT, YOU’RE ALREADY HERE? I JUST CONTACTED YOU YESTERDAY…
FROM THE USA IN JUST ONE DAY… YOU’RE REALLY EAGER…
Sera initially assumes he is junior to her.
A NEW… RECRUIT?
HE’S BUILT WELL…
Na corrects her:
DREAM ON.
HE’S NOT A JUNIOR, HE’S A COLLEAGUE. YOU PASSED ON THE SAME DAY…
A senior official provides Daniel’s documents:
YOU’VE HAD A LONG JOURNEY HERE.

Hanrim explains that the final choice came from above:

MAYBE THE INTERVIEW LEFT A STRONG IMPRESSION.
The comment establishes both Sera’s insecurity and Daniel’s unusual status as an American inspector within a Korean government agency.

Na celebrates a new official vehicle:

He complains that their senior resisted the request until staffing expanded:
DAMN OLD MAN! HE WOULDN’T GIVE IT TO US EVEN IF WE BEGGED FOR A YEAR, BUT AS SOON AS THE STAFF INCREASED, HE IMMEDIATELY AGREED!
NO MORE HITCHING RIDES IN IM HANRIM’S CAR!
Daniel offers:
I HAVE AN INTERNATIONAL DRIVER’S LICENSE. I’LL DRIVE.
Na refuses and gives him the red file:
NO, YOU READ THIS WHILE YOU’RE AT IT.
Na explains:
THESE CASES IN THE RED FILE ARE CLASSIFIED AS RED CASES BECAUSE THEY’RE URGENT,
BUT HAVEN’T BEEN DEALT WITH DUE TO VARIOUS CIRCUMSTANCES.
Daniel opens a complaint titled:
EXPOSING THE TRUE NATURE OF THE DEVIL’S SCHOOL, DOWON GYEONGDANG
The letter begins:
HELLO. I AM A FEMALE MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENT WHO ATTENDED DOWON GYEONGDANG THREE YEARS AGO AND THEN LEFT. PLEASE ELIMINATE DOWON GYEONGDANG, THE DEVIL’S SCHOOL WHERE EVERYTHING HAPPENS EXCEPT MURDER.
WHAT I EXPERIENCED THERE, IF I MAY SUMMARIZE—
The details beyond that point are visually dense, but Daniel’s reaction shows that the allegations are extensive and severe.
Images 033–044 — Na tests Daniel’s nonviolent philosophy¶
Daniel closes part of the file:
I’VE SEEN IT.
Na asks:
SO, WHAT DO YOU THINK?
Daniel answers:
IT’S HORRENDOUS…
IT’S HARD TO BELIEVE THAT THIS HAPPENED IN A DEVELOPED COUNTRY IN THE 21ST CENTURY…
Na reminds him:
DIDN’T I TELL YOU DURING THE INTERVIEW?
THE CASES WE HANDLE GO BEYOND THE ORDINARY…
He asks whether Daniel still stands by his interview answer:
DO YOU STILL THINK YOU CAN DO WHAT YOU SAID DURING THE INTERVIEW?
Daniel repeats:
I AM A NONVIOLENT PERSON.
THERE’S ALWAYS A ROOT CAUSE FOR HUMAN EVIL.

Daniel explains that his philosophy was not formed in safety:

The dismissive line is partly teasing, but it also signals that Na intends to evaluate Daniel in the field.

Images 049–056 — A lesson about the “true self”¶
A male teacher with neatly parted hair, a mustache, and pointed beard teaches students outside beside the stream.
ZHUANGZI SAID…
SINCERITY IS ABOUT FINDING THE TRUE SELF HIDDEN BEHIND THE CLOUDS OF THE MIND.
Nature imagery—blue sky, forest, flowers, and running water—accompanies the lecture.
THIS MEANS THAT WHAT YOU’VE BELIEVED TO BE YOURSELF
THAT UNTIL NOW IS ACTUALLY THE RESULT OF EXTERNAL INFLUENCES.
THE EVIL MIND THAT DECEIVES OTHERS, IS JEALOUS,
AND COVETING WEALTH IS NOT YOUR TRUE SELF BUT THE PRODUCT OF THE ENVIRONMENT YOU GREW UP IN.
THUS, BY PURSUING THE DAO IN HARMONY WITH NATURE HERE,
YOU HOPE TO FIND YOUR TRUE SELF, YOUR SINCERITY.
He asks:

The students answer together:

One boy in a green hoodie, Suchan, sits apart with his gaze lowered.
SUCHAN IS NOT RESPONDING.
The teacher calls:

After a long pause, Suchan forces out:
YES, TEACHER…
The serenity of the outdoor class sharply contrasts with what follows.
Images 057–061 — Torture beneath the school’s spiritual façade¶
The scene cuts to a tiled shower or utility room. Suchan is naked and lying face-down on the wet floor. Other students surround him and pour or spray freezing groundwater over his body.
He gasps:
UGH!
The children laugh:
LOOK AT HIM SQUIRM, JUST LIKE A FISH~
HEY, ISN’T IT COLD DOWN THERE IN THE GROUNDWATER? RIGHT?
IS THIS A WATER BALLOON OR WHAT? THIS IS A WATER BALLOON, HAHA.
Suchan suddenly sees an adult standing in the doorway.
T-TEACHER!
He crawls toward him:
TEACHER… PLEASE SAVE ME!
PLEASE… STOP MY BROTHERS AND SISTER…!
The same teacher from the Dao lecture looks down with a broad smile. One eye is rendered dark red and fanatical.
He praises the attackers:
YOU’RE DOING WELL, KIDS!
The chapter ends on his approving expression and the YLAB mark.
Chapter-level continuity notes¶
The drug arc produces policy but not institutional omnipotence¶
The agency’s public intervention prompts police action and legislative attention, yet Na immediately emphasizes that the TRPA cannot investigate every seller. Their role is to expose educational harms and force larger institutions to respond.
The second-generation team has contrasting temperaments¶
Gu Sera is reactive, competitive, and quick to turn frustration into physical aggression. Daniel is physically capable but restrained, stopping her punch without retaliation. Their equal recruit status foreshadows tension over method and authority.
Daniel’s nonviolence is experience-based¶
His refusal to rely on violence is not presented as naïveté. He grew up around severe urban violence and believes punishment can suppress behavior without reaching its cause. Dowon Gyeongdang becomes the first real test of whether that belief can survive organized abuse.
The school uses therapeutic language to conceal domination¶
The teacher’s lecture says evil behavior is merely an external layer hiding a true self. Yet he actively supervises cruelty. The spiritual vocabulary appears to absolve abusers and reclassify torture as guidance, purification, or communal correction.
Suchan calls his attackers “brothers and sister”¶
The wording suggests the school has imposed a pseudo-family structure or communal terminology. His plea shows that these labels do not represent safety; they make abuse harder to identify and escape.
The cliffhanger identifies adult complicity¶
The children are not secretly breaking the school’s ideals. The teacher enters, sees the naked boy being tortured, and praises the perpetrators. The abuse is therefore institutional policy, not isolated bullying.
