Images 001–003 — The school treats the injured student as the only victim¶
Cheolyong lies on the gym floor after the ball strike.
Hanrim feigns concern:
OH MY~ SORRY~ DID THE BALL HAPPEN TO GO YOUR WAY?
The head teacher storms into the office and shouts:
WHAT THE HELL HAVE YOU DONE?!
THIS IS YOUR FIRST DAY AND YOU HURT A STUDENT ALREADY?!
A SUBSTITUTE TEACHER OF ALL PEOPLE?!
Cheolyong sits nearby with fresh blood and bandages.
The administrator warns Hanrim:
YOU’RE JUST A SUBSTITUTE! YOU THINK YOU CAN GET AWAY WITH THIS?
I CAN FIRE YOU ANYTIME I WANT, GOT IT?!
Hanrim clasps her hands and answers calmly:
HEAD TEACHER, I ADMITTED I “ACCIDENTALLY” HURT A STUDENT DURING CLASS,
YET WHY AREN’T YOU POINTING OUT THE STUDENT’S INFRINGEMENT OF TEACHERS’ RIGHTS?
She understands:
SO THIS IS WHAT IT WAS.
Images 004–006 — Hanrim requests an official review¶
Hanrim asks whether the school has a culture of looking down on substitute teachers.
She notes that other temporary teachers appear to have experienced similar rights violations.
WOULDN’T IT BE GOOD TO INVESTIGATE USING THIS OPPORTUNITY AND CORRECT THE STUDENTS’ HABIT OF INFRINGEMENT OF TEACHERS’ RIGHTS?
The head teacher explodes:
WHAT, YOU LITTLE…
HOW DARE A BRAT LIKE YOU TALK BACK TO ME…
Hanrim states formally:
I REQUEST A REVIEW BY THE TEACHERS’ RIGHTS PROTECTION COMMITTEE.
Lee Seoni rushes in and pulls her away while the administrator shouts.
On the rooftop, Lee Seoni gives Hanrim a drink and says the committee will not convene.
Hanrim replies that all teachers have rights.
Lee Seoni says she will go speak to the administrators herself.
Images 007–009 — The previous substitute teacher’s case¶
Lee Seoni explains that temporary teachers are non-regular workers, not permanent staff.
A flashback introduces Yoo Changjin, a ten-year veteran substitute teacher.
He was liked by students and performed classes and duties as well as any permanent teacher.
During the previous year, however, second-year high-school boys began testing him.
Anonymous posts circulated among students identifying which teachers were substitutes.
They mocked him:
I HEARD YOU’RE A SUBSTITUTE!
YOU’RE A MERE PART-TIMER. SHOULD YOU BE SAYING SHIT TO PRECIOUS STUDENTS LIKE US?
The harassment escalated from jokes to physical abuse, insults, and humiliating classroom behavior.
Changjin documented the incidents and requested a Teachers’ Rights Protection Committee meeting.
The principal asked why he needed to make such a big issue over students playing around.
Another official said:
YOU’RE A SUBSTITUTE, SO JUST FOCUS ON TEACHING. TALKING ABOUT RIGHTS? AS IF YOU HAVE ANY.
The principal lied that substitute teachers did not qualify under the relevant education law.
In reality, the educational administration manual and Teaching Rights Act include substitute educators.
The principal’s approval never came through, so the committee never convened.
Changjin’s contract was not renewed, and he left the school.
Images 010–012 — Students learn that substitutes cannot fight back¶
After Changjin’s departure, certain students become completely uncontrollable around temporary teachers.
They smoke in front of them, walk out of class, throw objects, and openly say:
YOU’RE A DAMN PART-TIMER. STAY A DAMN PART-TIMER. DON’T OVERDO IT.
The problem is not only individual cruelty.
The students watched the school refuse to protect Changjin.
They learned that a substitute can be assaulted without consequences.
Lee Seoni summarizes the only practical survival strategy:
STAY SILENT AND ENDURE IT.
A sudden movement interrupts the rooftop conversation.
A student grabs or hooks Hanrim’s feet and trips her.
She falls violently while Cheolyong and his friends laugh.
Images 013–015 — Why substitute teachers remain silent¶
Hanrim says:
HE GRABBED YOUR FEET AND TRIPPED YOU…
THAT’S ASSAULT.
Lee Seoni answers that she already knows.
Hanrim asks why she will simply accept it.
Lee Seoni smiles sadly:
IN THIS WORLD, THERE ARE PEOPLE WHO CAN’T SURVIVE IF THEY DON’T GET MONTHLY INCOME EVEN FOR ONE MONTH.
WE GOTTA MAKE A LIVING, SO WE DON’T HAVE A CHOICE, DO WE?
She explains:
- schools do not renew temporary teachers who cause conflict with students,
- rumors spread and make employment at another school difficult,
- contracts last only six months to a year,
- and even if the agency proves discrimination, the school can say the contract simply ended.
Help from the TRPA would not automatically protect the victim’s livelihood.
Hanrim finally understands why almost no substitute teachers report abuse.
THIS IS DEFINITELY DIFFERENT FROM ANYTHING I’VE HANDLED BEFORE.
Even punishing Cheolyong and his friends might leave Lee Seoni unemployed.
Images 016–018 — Hanrim changes the target of the report¶
Hanrim grips the rooftop ledge.
Her thoughts focus on the structural trap:
WHAT THE VICTIM LEE SEONI WILL GET
is a one-sided contract termination from the school.
The phrase CONTRACT TERMINATED appears across a document.
SUBSTITUTE TEACHERS RENEW CONTRACTS EVERY FEW MONTHS TO A YEAR.
If the school argues that the contract naturally expired, the agency may have little power to prove retaliation.
Hanrim asks herself what she is supposed to do.
Back in the hallway, students again trip and mock her.
This time she reacts.

Cheolyong and his friends laugh:

Hanrim rises with a racket or clenched fist.
She says:
SURE! TAKE A HIT!
LET’S SEE WHO WILL SUFFER AFTER THIS, KEKE.
Cheolyong mocks the head teacher for giving her an earful and asks whether she now knows her place.
He offers settlement money for the broken glasses and jokes that a substitute might be poor enough to accept repayment through her body.
Hanrim punches him squarely in the face.
His body flies across the hallway and crashes down.
He screams:
WHAT THE HELL?!
AHJUSSI, WHO ARE YOU?!
A tall, long-haired man dressed in black appears behind or beside the confrontation.
Images 022–023 — The agency’s real report begins¶
Hanrim initially tells the newcomer:
NO, NO, YOU SHOULDN’T BE DOING THAT!
The man smiles and says:
THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS INFRINGEMENT OF TEACHERS’ RIGHTS, YOU KNOW.
Hanrim continues the legal framing:
YOU THINK A STUDENT CAN ASSAULT, THREATEN, AND EVEN SEXUALLY HARASS A TEACHER…
Then smiles.
RIGHT, THIS IS IT! THIS WILL WORK!
Her internal conclusion is:
THE ONE WHO REPORTS THIS WON’T BE LEE SEONI,
BUT THE FAKE TEACHER YU SEOYEON…!
By making herself the direct, documented victim under an assumed temporary-teacher identity, Hanrim intends to trigger an investigation without attaching the retaliation risk to Lee Seoni’s contract.
The chapter ends before the black-haired man’s full role and the school’s response are revealed.

His language matches the agency’s formal mission, but the chapter withholds his complete introduction. His arrival turns Hanrim’s improvised violence into the beginning of a documented Teachers’ Rights Protection case.
