Content note¶
The chapter depicts developmental concerns, parental denial, pseudoscientific treatment, escalating child violence, alcohol use, and a severe assault on a parent.
Images 001–003 — Na challenges the laboratory outside¶
Na confronts Wang after seeing the K-Genius facility.
He asks what scientific evidence supports its claims.
Why, he asks, would an educated Ministry official reject hospitals and specialists for a center advertising complete recovery, superior blood, and right-brain genius?
He says the disgusting phrase “Emperor’s DNA” clearly came from this place.
Wang demands tangible evidence that the program is fraudulent.
Na answers that the evidence is standing inside her family: Hyunjong’s behavior has worsened while every professional warning has been ignored.
Images 004–006 — Wang’s identity was built on achievement¶
A flashback explains why the promise was so effective.
Wang was praised throughout childhood for grades, awards, and athletic performance.
She passed a high-level civil-service examination at a very young age, possibly while still in university.
Her family treated her as a genuine genius.
She married with a strong desire to have a child who would inherit the same ability.
Hyunjong’s birth therefore carried a hidden demand: he would confirm that Wang’s superiority was biological and enduring.
Images 007–009 — Development did not follow her expectations¶
Hyunjong was slow to learn Hangul and struggled to keep pace with other children.
Teachers raised concerns.
Wang answered that gifted children develop differently and that the family’s genes would eventually reveal themselves.
She researched ADHD and attempted various ways to improve his behavior.
After years without the transformation she expected, her private thoughts became cruel:
WHO IS THIS DIMWIT?
A hospital eventually diagnosed ADHD and began medication or ordinary treatment.
Hyunjong apologized repeatedly, but developmental and behavioral problems did not disappear quickly.
Wang became exhausted by hearing the same advice from professionals.
Images 010–012 — K-Genius says exactly what she needs to hear¶
Wang first entered K-Genius with little trust.
The chief researcher immediately corrected her language:
THAT’S NOT A GOOD WAY TO DESCRIBE HIM.
THIS CHILD IS A GENIUS.
Using a colorful brain model, he claimed Hyunjong possessed a strongly developed right brain like history’s greatest creative figures.
He asked about the surname Wang and royal lineage.
The researcher transformed a frightened parent’s family pride into a personalized theory:
EMPEROR’S DNA
For the first time, someone told Wang that the child’s difficulties proved greatness rather than failure.
Images 013–016 — The K-Genius method removes every boundary¶
The program instructs Wang:
- do not blame or lecture mistakes,
- let the child eat whatever he wants,
- provide flour-heavy foods such as bread, tteokbokki, pizza, and ramen because they supposedly suit a right-brain child,
- ask gently instead of ordering,
- call him “my prince,”
- ban the words “no” and “can’t,”
- do not stop unwanted behavior,
- and allow extensive gaming because game activity supposedly stimulates the brain.
At first, Hyunjong appears brighter and more confident after medication and ordinary discipline are withdrawn.
The chief researcher says confidence means the latent genius is awakening.
Wang feels hope.
Images 017–019 — Worsening behavior is reclassified as progress¶
Hyunjong becomes increasingly rude, impulsive, and violent.
He attacks classmates and ignores his mother.
Each time Wang worries, K-Genius tells her not to waver. This is the critical stage before genius emerges; slowing or stopping the method would cause complete failure.
The program makes doubt itself evidence that the parent is sabotaging treatment.
Wang begins drinking wine while forcing herself to continue believing.
Images 020–021 — Hyunjong attacks his mother¶
At night, Hyunjong hides or approaches from below the table.
He strikes or kicks Wang violently.
She screams and reacts with rage:
YOU KICKED ME, YOU CRAZY BRAT?
The conflict escalates around a bottle.
Blood and broken objects fill the room.
Wang is left unconscious or severely injured while Hyunjong remains in a state of uncontrolled aggression.
The “prince” ideology has made the home as unsafe as the classroom.
Images 022–023 — The family becomes Na’s evidence¶
Wang wakes in a hospital bed with bandages around her head and body.
Na sits nearby reading the K-Genius booklet.
He says:
IT ALMOST BECAME A REAL TRAGEDY.
Then reminds her:
DIDN’T I TELL YOU?
YOUR FAMILY WOULD PROVE WHETHER IT WAS PSEUDOSCIENCE.
He asks:
HOW DOES IT FEEL TO HAVE TURNED YOUR SON INTO A WILD BEAST?
The line is intentionally cruel, but it destroys Wang’s final ability to describe worsening violence as genius awakening.
Chapter-level continuity notes¶
Wang’s denial is tied to her own biography¶
Accepting that Hyunjong needs sustained treatment feels, to her, like accepting that her identity as a hereditary genius was false.
K-Genius personalizes the sales pitch¶
The royal surname lets the researcher give a generic pseudoscientific program the appearance of uniquely understanding this family.
Improvement is defined so the program cannot fail¶
Calmness proves the method works. Aggression proves genius is emerging. Doubt proves the parent is interrupting treatment.
Medication is removed before a stable alternative exists¶
The family abandons ordinary clinical care while simultaneously removing limits on food, games, greetings, study, and violence.
The assault collapses the protected fantasy¶
Wang can no longer place the physical cost entirely on teachers and classmates. She becomes the person injured by the system she defended.
