The chapter contains a teacher’s sexual or otherwise severe abuse of a student, attempted murder, assault with a brick, home invasion, and juvenile prosecution.
Images 001–017 — Sangyeol Cheon and the origin of Yeri’s hatred¶
Sunyoung hears the former classmate’s explanation.
Yeri completely fell apart after an incident in ninth grade.
The homeroom teacher responsible was:
SANGYEOL CHEON
The student describes him as a horrible man and says his conduct caused Yeri to begin hating every teacher she encountered.
The details are not fully disclosed in this chapter, but the memory is associated with fear, coercion, and a profound violation of trust.
The classmate asks whether a teacher could truly do something so terrible.
Yeri’s present violence is not proof that the earlier abuse was invented.
Images 018–036 — Hanrim prevents Yeri’s fall¶
On the rooftop or exterior ledge, Yeri’s plan becomes genuinely dangerous.
Hanrim grabs her and absorbs the fall with her own body.
The two tumble across a lower structure.
Hanrim reaches for a vent or wall while holding Yeri.
The inspector refuses to let go even while Yeri kicks and struggles.
Yeri laughs and calls herself a psychopath.
She asks how long Hanrim needed to realize it.
Images 037–057 — Yeri attacks the person holding her¶
Yeri continues striking Hanrim during the descent.
They crash into the alley.
Hanrim is stunned and injured.
Yeri seizes the opportunity.
She punches and kicks the inspector repeatedly.
She picks up a brick and prepares to strike Hanrim’s head.
Sunyoung arrives and grabs Yeri’s arm.
YERI, NO!
Yeri shouts that the injured accomplice told Sunyoung everything.
She calls the teacher a hypocrite for pretending concern after betraying her to the TRPA.
Images 058–078 — Yeri turns on Sunyoung¶
Yeri attacks Sunyoung with the brick and her fists.
Sunyoung says understanding the student’s past does not make the current violence acceptable.
Yeri says Sunyoung now knows what happened in ninth grade and therefore should allow her to do anything she cannot take back.
Hanrim recovers and stops the brick.
She drives Yeri away from the teacher and knocks her down.
Yeri begs the officers who arrive moments later to protect her from the “crazy lady.”
Images 079–097 — Sunyoung gives the police the missing testimony¶
Police order everyone to separate.
Sunyoung identifies herself as Yeri’s teacher.
She says Yeri cannot be repaired through another hidden compromise.
There is something the officers and agency need to know.
Her testimony connects:
- Yeri’s break-in;
- threats against the reporter;
- the attack on fellow students;
- the conspiracy surrounding Mr. Go;
- and the earlier abuse by Sangyeol Cheon.
The investigation moves from one chaotic chase into a documented criminal case.
Images 098–111 — The case against Yeri¶
Police open an investigation into Yeri’s home invasion and assault.
Evidence recovered from her phone shows the conspiracy to falsely accuse Mr. Go.
Sohyeong or another student is questioned as a co-conspirator.
Yeri is sent to a juvenile classification and review center while awaiting trial.
The school can no longer describe the events as pranks or misunderstandings.
Images 112–126 — Hanrim visits the juvenile center¶
Hanrim meets Yeri in the review room.
Yeri’s face remains bruised and bandaged.
Hanrim brings a collection of reports.
There were approximately 62 separate reports about Yeri’s conduct.
The majority came from students furious over Mr. Go’s death.
Sunyoung never filed one of them.
Yeri tears or mocks the pages.
She says nobody cares what happens to a hypocrite like Sunyoung.
Images 127–134 — Trauma does not erase responsibility¶
Hanrim says she heard Sangyeol Cheon did something awful to Yeri.
Experiencing severe abuse during a formative period can twist a person’s view of adults and authority.
Hanrim can understand why Yeri became angry and distrustful.
She does not pity the crimes that followed.
JUST BECAUSE A PERSON HAS BEEN TRAUMATIZED, THAT DOESN’T TURN THEM INTO A CRIMINAL.
Yeri must answer for what she chose to do to Mr. Go, Sunyoung, and the students.
Hanrim promises that Sangyeol Cheon will also pay for his own actions.
The chapter ends with Na approaching another school connected to that name.
