Strip 001 — Measures 5 and 7¶
A week has passed since the School Violence Committee opened.
Sunghwan and the other boys remain relaxed. They believe the retaliatory report and their fathers’ legal pressure have paralyzed the case.
Sunghwan boasts that his father sued Giseok’s father and says the victim must be too mentally destroyed to continue.
Hanrim and Daniel enter the classroom carrying the completed decision.
The committee has imposed:
- Measure 5 — special education, and
- Measure 7 — class transfer.
Sunghwan is ordered to pack his belongings and move immediately.
The boys’ confidence disappears.
At the same time, Lee Sechang drives toward the school, saying he intends to pressure staff until the decision changes.
Strip 002 — Sechang witnesses the conduct he calls a prank¶
Inside the school, Sechang follows noise toward a classroom.
A group of boys is openly tormenting another student during break.
They order the boy to retrieve basketballs, shove him around, and strike him in the face with a ball while laughing.
Several students film.
The abuse is not hidden from classmates; it has become entertainment.
Sechang recognizes his son among the group and shouts:
SUNGWHAN! STOP RIGHT NOW!!
For an instant he reacts exactly as a protective adult should.
Then the incident is placed beside the complaint against his own son.
Hanrim appears and asks why he is treating this behavior as serious when the same actions toward Giseok were dismissed as fun.
Strip 003 — The list of “pranks”¶
Hanrim reintroduces herself as a TRPA field inspector.
She reminds Sechang that the School Violence Committee has already decided his son’s punishment and that Sunghwan is now undergoing special education.
A board lists conduct attributed to the boys, including:
- drawing on a student’s face;
- splashing water while passing;
- making a victim pay karaoke fees;
- throwing balls at the head during breaks;
- choking until the victim passes out;
- beating someone under the excuse of sparring;
- harassing the victim around the clock in group chats;
- mocking body odor;
- forcing theft from convenience stores;
- slapping the back of the head while passing;
- jabbing with pens;
- urinating on gym clothes;
- and throwing eggs.
Hanrim tells Sechang these are the acts he repeatedly called his son’s “pranks.”
Strip 004 — The purpose of the experiential program¶
The special education has a direct design.
Sunghwan will experience five days of the same treatment he imposed on other students.
Hanrim asks whether Sechang will still call the behavior harmless after watching his own son endure it.
Sechang refuses the program and announces an administrative appeal against the committee decision.
Daniel tells him that an appeal is his legal right, but refusing the ordered education has consequences.
He also warns Sechang that physically intimidating an inspector in the hallway will create an additional issue.
Hanrim calls him the “hypocrite final boss”: cruelty is a joke when his son performs it and inhumane when his son receives it.
Sechang begins flooding the Ministry of Education complaint line.
He says the TRPA committed inhumane acts against his child.
The hotline worker responds that the Ministry has received the same complaints repeatedly.
Strip 005 — The complaint line and the fine¶
The hotline employee says the Minister has instructed staff not to entertain duplicate complaints aimed only at obstructing the TRPA.
If Sechang files the same complaint again, the number will be blocked.
He is outraged that a public helpline can speak to him that way.
A registered letter later arrives at his home.
It is an administrative fine for failure to complete the required special education.
The amount shown is:

Daniel visits and explains that Sechang has misunderstood the appeal process.
An administrative appeal does not automatically suspend the committee’s decision.
The obligation remains active unless a separate suspension is granted.
Strip 006 — Refusal costs money; the “pranks” continue¶
Paying the fine does not cancel the education.
Refusing again without a valid reason can produce another fine.
Daniel points out that Sechang is already spending money on the criminal dispute with Giseok’s father.
The staged special education proceeds:
- Day 2 — choking;
- Day 3 — “sparring”;
- Day 4 — splashing water, food, and other substances.
Sunghwan returns home exhausted, stained, and frightened.
He asks whether they can simply admit what happened and apologize.
Sechang refuses.
He tells his son that apologizing means admitting guilt and that a school-violence record can damage university admission.
There is only one day left, so Sunghwan must endure it.
Strip 007 — The father’s lesson¶
Sechang tells his son the one rule he believes matters in society:
THE MOMENT YOU ADMIT IT, YOU LOSE EVERY ARGUMENT AND EXCUSE.
He says the record may remain for years after graduation and destroy future opportunities.
Sunghwan’s growing understanding of Giseok’s suffering is treated as a threat to the family’s legal strategy.
On Day 5, the fathers attend a parent observation session.
They watch their sons undergo replicas of the same conduct they minimized.
Hanrim asks whether they still believe it is all harmless fun.
The fathers answer that boys do such things and that the program itself is excessive.
Strip 008 — The education is extended¶
Hanrim announces that the first round of special education is over.
A second round with the same content will begin the following week.
The parents protest that the program was supposed to last five days.
Hanrim says the supervisor has decided that ending after one cycle would be a shame.
She repeats the logic the fathers used throughout the case:
IT’S ONLY FUN AND PRANKS.
PLUS, IT WAS REALLY FUN.
Sechang grabs or reaches for her in fury.
Hanrim catches his hand and forces him down.
IF THE ONE DOING THE PRANKS INSISTS IT’S A JOKE, THEN IT’S A JOKE… ISN’T THAT YOUR LOGIC?
The chapter ends with the parents finally experiencing the powerlessness created when the person inflicting harm is allowed to define whether harm exists.
