Get Schooled / True Education — Chapter 256

Detailed Visual Transcript

Method: This transcript follows the embedded chapter images in reading order. Dialogue and narration are reproduced as directly as possible from the English scanlation. Actions, expressions, gestures, staging, scene changes, and visible SFX are described separately. Korean SFX are retained when legible, with an English functional gloss. Where a stylized SFX is not fully certain, that uncertainty is stated rather than guessed.

Rooftop

  • On a school rooftop in daylight, three female students stand together at the roof edge, holding hands. Their bodies are tense and pitched toward the drop.
  • Several steps behind them, the apparent transfer student—dark braided hair, large brown glasses, school uniform, backpack—has stopped and is watching them.

Student: “IF WE’RE REBORN…”

  • The three girls tighten their hold on one another.

Student: “LET’S NEVER GO INTO THE ARTS AGAIN!”

  • They simultaneously throw themselves forward from the edge.
  • Their faces pinch shut with terror and resolve as their bodies tip into empty space.
  • The undercover student lunges after them immediately.

SFX: 우악 — a startled scream / “UAAK!”

  • Close-up: her eyes flare red behind the glasses; her mouth opens in a full scream and a bead of sweat flies from her face.
  • She dives low and reaches out, catching hold of the falling girls before they can clear the edge completely.

SFX: stylized Korean impact/grab lettering, approximately 파악 — a sharp catch/grab impact.

  • With both arms extended, she yanks them back toward the rooftop. The force drags her down with them.
  • All four crash into a tangled pile on the rooftop surface; limbs overlap and one girl is sprawled across the undercover student.

SFX: 꽈당 — heavy crash / tumble.

  • The rescued girls lift their heads in confusion and pain, staring at the person who stopped them.

Student: “WHAT THE…? WHO’S THERE?!”

  • One recognizes the uniformed girl.

Student: “THE TRANSFER STUDENT?!”

  • The undercover student breathes hard, still crouched from the rescue.

Undercover student: “THAT WAS A CLOSE CALL…”

Undercover student: “WHY ARE YOU GUYS DOING THIS?”

  • One of the girls immediately snaps back, still on the ground.

Student: “STAY OUT OF IT! THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH YOU, TRANSFER STUDENT!”

  • The undercover student straightens.

Undercover student: “I’M NOT A TRANSFER STUDENT.”

  • She removes the disguise: the dark hairpiece comes away and she takes off the large glasses, revealing long red hair and her actual face.

Hanlim: “I’M LIM HANLIM, AN INSPECTOR WITH THE TEACHERS’ RIGHTS PROTECTION AGENCY.”

Page image 3 — The girls begin explaining / Lee Ji-Woo’s past

  • The three girls freeze after the reveal, eyes wide.

Student: “THE… THE TRPA?!”

  • Hanlim stands over them, serious and alert.

Hanlim: “THREE OF YOU TRYING TO JUMP AT THE SAME TIME… THIS IS NO ORDINARY INCIDENT.”

  • She rubs the back of her head, still visibly rattled from the physical rescue, but keeps her tone firm.

Hanlim: “TELL ME EVERYTHING THAT’S GOING ON.”

  • The girls look down. Their faces are exhausted, ashamed, and hopeless.

Student: “IT’S BETTER THAN DYING, ISN’T IT?”

  • A pause follows as the girls avoid Hanlim’s eyes.

Series title transition

  • The Korean 참교육 / YLAB title logo appears with creator credits beneath it.

Lee Ji-Woo’s narration begins

  • Black-background flashback sequence.
  • A younger Lee Ji-Woo performs contemporary dance alone under stage lighting, balancing on one leg with the other extended nearly vertically beside her head and both arms reaching outward.

Narration: “EVERYONE NEEDS A DREAM.”

Narration: “THAT WAS THE MOST IMPORTANT VIRTUE MY PARENTS EVER TAUGHT ME.”

Narration: “MY PARENTS AND I BOTH AGREED THAT CONVENTIONAL STUDYING WASN’T MY DREAM.”

  • She finishes a dance before seated judges/audience members.

SFX: 짝 짝 짝 — applause / clap, clap, clap.

Narration: “THEY EXPOSED ME TO ALL SORTS OF ACTIVITIES FROM A YOUNG AGE,”

  • Front portrait of Ji-Woo in dancewear, hair neatly tied in a bun.

Narration: “AND I CHOSE CONTEMPORARY DANCE.”

Narration: “FORTUNATELY, I SEEMED TO HAVE A TALENT FOR IT.”

  • A shelf packed with trophies, plaques, certificates, medals, and awards fills the next shot.

Narration: “I WON GRAND PRIZES IN SEVERAL COMPETITIONS,”

  • Entrance ceremony at a prestigious arts high school. Ji-Woo stands on stage receiving recognition while rows of uniformed students watch.
  • Banner: “SEONGYEONG ARTS HIGH SCHOOL ENTRANCE CEREMONY.”
  • Placard: “CONTEMPORARY DANCE DEPARTMENT – TOP RANK: LEE JI-WOO.”

Narration: “AND I WAS EVEN ADMITTED AS THE TOP STUDENT TO THE PRESTIGIOUS SEONGYEONG ARTS HIGH.”

Page image 4 — The first pressure from the school

Entrance ceremony

  • A male school official in a dark suit hands Ji-Woo a folder/certificate and smiles at her.

School official: “SO YOU’RE LEE JI-WOO. THE SCHOOL HAS HIGH EXPECTATIONS FOR YOU.”

Ji-Woo: “YES, SIR. THANK YOU.”

  • The official directs her attention toward an older gray-haired woman seated centrally among the adults, smiling and applauding.

School official: “SEE THE PERSON IN THE CENTER? THAT’S OUR PRINCIPAL.”

School official: “YOU WERE ADMITTED AS THE TOP STUDENT BECAUSE THE PRINCIPAL THINKS VERY HIGHLY OF YOU.”

  • He presents Ji-Woo with a large bouquet of pink roses while speaking in a pointed, insinuating manner.

School official: “THANKS TO THE PRINCIPAL, YOU’RE EVEN RECEIVING A SCHOLARSHIP. YOU SHOULD SHOW YOUR APPRECIATION, DON’T YOU THINK?”

  • Ji-Woo looks confused and uneasy, a sweat bead forming.

Ji-Woo: “HUH…?”

  • The official leans in with a knowing smile.

School official: “GO HOME AND TELL YOUR PARENTS.”

School official: “THEY’LL KNOW EXACTLY WHAT THAT MEANS~”

  • Ji-Woo watches him, unsettled.

Narration: “I GOT A BAD FEELING ABOUT IT RIGHT THEN.”

  • In a dance studio, an adult female instructor with auburn hair speaks to Ji-Woo.

Ji-Woo: “WHAT? YOU WANT ME TO GO TO A SPECIFIC ACADEMY?”

Instructor: “YES. THAT ACADEMY IS PARTNERED WITH OUR SCHOOL, SO THE CURRICULUM IS INTEGRATED WITH OUR MAJOR CLASSES.”

Instructor: “PLUS, THE INSTRUCTORS ARE ELITES IN THE INDUSTRY!”

  • Ji-Woo tries to object.

Ji-Woo: “BUT I’M…”

  • The instructor cuts her off with a smile that becomes increasingly patronizing.

Instructor: “I KNOW~ YOU’RE TAKING PRIVATE LESSONS FROM SOMEONE WITH NO REAL CREDENTIALS, RIGHT?”

Instructor: “THAT WON’T DO~ NOW THAT YOU’RE AT A PRESTIGIOUS SCHOOL LIKE THIS, SHOULDN’T YOU BE LEARNING FROM A TOP-TIER INSTRUCTOR?”

  • Ji-Woo stands rigidly, eyes widened and a sweat bead on her cheek.

Instructor: “I’M NOT FORCING YOU, SO THINK IT OVER CAREFULLY.”

Ji-Woo’s private tutor

  • Ji-Woo narrates over an image of herself training in a private studio while a bespectacled male instructor watches attentively with his arms folded.

Narration: “ACTUALLY, I HAD A PRIVATE TUTOR WHO HAD BEEN TEACHING ME DANCE SINCE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL.”

Narration: “HE WAS MY PERSONAL INSTRUCTOR.”

Page image 5 — The academy disappoints her / Ji-Woo pushes back

  • Portrait of Ji-Woo’s longtime male tutor, smiling gently behind rectangular glasses.

Narration: “HE WASN’T EXACTLY A BIG NAME IN THE DANCE WORLD,”

Narration: “BUT HIS TEACHING WAS PRECISE. HE WATCHED ME GROW SINCE I WAS LITTLE, SO HE KNEW MY STRENGTHS AND WEAKNESSES BETTER THAN ANYONE. HE WAS THE BEST TEACHER I COULD ASK FOR.”

  • Despite this, Ji-Woo attends the school-connected academy. Several students stretch and rehearse together.

Narration: “BUT I COULDN’T JUST IGNORE THE SCHOOL’S ‘RECOMMENDATION,’”

Narration: “SO I APOLOGIZED TO MY TUTOR AND SWITCHED TO THAT ACADEMY.”

  • In class, Ji-Woo dances while the academy instructor sits to the side, barely attentive, yawning into her hand.

Narration: “BUT DESPITE THE TEACHER’S HIGH PRAISE, THE ACADEMY’S CLASSES FELL FAR SHORT OF MY EXPECTATIONS.”

SFX: 아함~ — yawn.

Narration: “THE INSTRUCTOR’S ATTITUDE WAS ALSO UNPROFESSIONAL, SO I COULDN’T TRUST HER.”

  • The narration shifts to the money demanded beyond tuition.

Narration: “ON TOP OF THAT, THERE WERE COSTS BEYOND THE REGULAR TUITION.”

  • At home, Ji-Woo’s mother sits with her cheek in one hand, exhausted and worried about expenses; Ji-Woo stands farther back in the room.

Mother: “HUH…? THERE’S ANOTHER SPECIAL WORKSHOP…? HOW MUCH IS THE FEE FOR THAT…?”

Narration: “WORKSHOP FEES, COSTUME COSTS, GIFTS FOR THE DIRECTOR’S ANNIVERSARY… THE FINANCIAL BURDEN ON MY PARENTS WAS SEVERAL TIMES HIGHER THAN WITH PRIVATE LESSONS.”

  • Four months later, Ji-Woo quits the academy and returns to private lessons.

Narration: “IN THE END, AFTER JUST FOUR MONTHS…”

  • The academy instructor calls her aside after class.

Instructor: “LEE JI-WOO, STAY BEHIND FOR A MOMENT.”

  • They sit opposite each other across an office desk.

Instructor: “I HEARD YOU QUIT THE ACADEMY AND WENT BACK TO PRIVATE LESSONS?”

Ji-Woo: “AH, YES…”

  • The instructor’s expression hardens.

Instructor: “ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR MIND?”

  • Ji-Woo’s jaw tightens; emotion surges visibly through her face.

SFX: 울컥 — a sudden surge of anger/emotion.

Instructor: “THIS IS SUCH A CRUCIAL TIME, AND YOU’RE STICKING WITH THAT AMATEUR TRASH…?”

  • Ji-Woo abruptly rises and plants a hand hard on the desk, furious.

Ji-Woo: “DON’T INSULT MY TEACHER!”

Ji-Woo: “NO MATTER WHAT ANYONE SAYS, HE’S THE BEST TEACHER I’VE EVER HAD!”

  • She turns away from the desk.

Ji-Woo: “YOU SAID YOU WEREN’T FORCING ME LAST TIME, RIGHT?”

Ji-Woo: “I’LL HANDLE THE ACADEMY SITUATION MYSELF!”

  • The instructor remains seated with her arms folded, watching Ji-Woo leave with a cold, calculating expression.

SFX: 탁 — a sharp tap/clack associated with the movement in the office (exact source of the sound is not visually explicit).

  • The panel darkens around the instructor’s face as her internal attitude is revealed.

Instructor / thought: “RIGHT~ IT’S NOT ‘COERCION’~”

Instructor / thought: “YOU’RE JUST A WALKING WALLET…”

Page image 6 — Retaliation through exclusion and sexual rumors

Narration: “BUT THE VERY NEXT DAY…”

  • Ji-Woo stands outside with her phone to her ear, stunned.

Ji-Woo: “WHAT ARE YOU SAYING, TEACHER?! YOU CAN’T TEACH ME ANYMORE?!”

  • Her private tutor answers through the phone, apologetic.

Tutor / phone: “JI-WOO, I’M SORRY… SOMETHING CAME UP SUDDENLY…”

Tutor / phone: “PLEASE UNDERSTAND. I’LL ALWAYS BE CHEERING FOR YOU!”

  • Ji-Woo then visits multiple dance academies, only to be rejected repeatedly.

Narration: “I HAD NO CHOICE BUT TO LOOK FOR OTHER ACADEMIES,”

Academy staff: “OUR ACADEMY IS FULLY BOOKED.”

Another staff member: “SORRY. WE’RE NOT ACCEPTING STUDENTS RIGHT NOW.”

Ji-Woo: “WHAT DO YOU MEAN? YOU SAID I COULD JOIN OVER THE PHONE!”

Narration: “BUT NO ONE WOULD TAKE ME.”

Narration: “AND THAT WASN’T ALL.”

  • Ji-Woo looks down at her phone in a classroom, face shadowed with panic.

Ji-Woo: “WHAT IS THIS?”

Group-chat / rumor messages shown on her phone

[KIM JI-YOUNG]: “DID YOU KNOW LEE JI-WOO (CONTEMPORARY DANCE) IS ‘INVOLVED’ WITH HER TUTOR?”

[KIM SEUNG-HEE]: “SOMEONE EVEN SAW THEM GOING INTO A MOTEL TOGETHER~”

[MOON YOUNG-EUN]: “SO THAT’S WHY SHE SUDDENLY QUIT THE ACADEMY?”

[BANG IN-HAE]: “I HEARD SHE’S DATING ANOTHER MARRIED MAN BESIDES THAT TEACHER.”

[JI EUN-WOO]: “SHE ACTED SO HIGH AND MIGHTY AS THE TOP STUDENT, BUT SHE’S ACTUALLY DISGUSTING~”

  • Ji-Woo’s pupils contract. Sweat runs down her face.

Ji-Woo: “I WENT TO A MOTEL WITH MY TEACHER?”

Ji-Woo: “WHY ARE THESE RUMORS SUDDENLY…”

  • In class, students look over at her while gossiping loudly enough for her to hear.

Student: “WOW~ I REALLY DIDN’T SEE LEE JI-WOO AS THAT TYPE…”

Student: “UGH, THAT IS SO NASTY!”

  • Three girls cluster together, smirking.

Student: “SHE ALWAYS ACTED SO HIGH AND MIGHTY, BUT HER SECRET LIFE IS TOTALLY FUCKED.”

Student: “TURNS OUT SHE PROBABLY GOT HER TOP ADMISSION THE SAME WAY, RIGHT?”

Page image 7 — Ji-Woo is professionally destroyed

  • Close-up of Ji-Woo, face drained and sweating as hostile rumors surround her.

Narration: “BASELESS, MALICIOUS RUMORS SPREAD,”

Narration: “AND I BECAME THE ‘DIRTIEST’ STUDENT IN THE ENTIRE SCHOOL.”

Narration: “MY DANCE CAREER WAS RUINED, TOO.”

  • In the dance studio, the academy/school instructor crosses her arms and excludes Ji-Woo from a group performance while other students rehearse behind them.

Instructor: “YOU’RE OUT OF THE GROUP PERFORMANCE! YOU’LL DRAG EVERYONE ELSE DOWN!”

  • Later in an office, the instructor dismisses Ji-Woo’s desire to compete.

Instructor: “A COMPETITION? ARE YOU JOKING? DO YOU WANT TO DRAG THE SCHOOL’S NAME THROUGH THE MUD?”

  • During an evaluation, Ji-Woo performs alone while the instructor writes on a clipboard.

Instructor: “LEE JI-WOO, D!”

Narration: “MY GRADES, WHICH STARTED AT THE TOP,”

  • Transition to nighttime rain. Ji-Woo walks alone in her soaked school uniform and backpack, head lowered.

SFX: 쏴아아 — steady pouring rain.

Narration: “HAD PLUMMETED TO DEAD LAST.”

  • A black car abruptly stops beside her, red taillights glowing through the rain.

SFX: 끼익 — screech / sudden braking.

  • Ji-Woo looks toward the vehicle.
  • The rear window lowers. Principal Park Do-hee smiles at her from the back seat.

Principal Park Do-hee: “STUDENT LEE JI-WOO?”

Principal: “WHY ARE YOU WALKING IN THE RAIN WITHOUT AN UMBRELLA? YOU’LL CATCH A COLD~”

  • Ji-Woo stares in surprise.

Ji-Woo: “PRINCIPAL…?”

  • The principal’s smile remains pleasant on the surface, but her eyes are calculating.

Principal: “YOUR GRADES HAVE DROPPED A LOT LATELY, HAVEN’T THEY? WHAT A SHAME. I HAD HIGH HOPES FOR YOU…”

Principal: “SKILL ISN’T THE ONLY THING THAT MATTERS IN THIS WORLD~”

Principal: “ESPECIALLY IN THE ARTS, ‘COMMUNICATION SKILLS’ CAN BE EVEN MORE IMPORTANT, YOU KNOW?”

Page image 8 — Ji-Woo understands the cartel / Hanlim confronts the reality

  • Ji-Woo stands frozen in the rain as the principal’s words turn openly threatening.

Principal: “WE’VE GIVEN UP ON YOU,”

Principal: “SO DON’T EXPECT ANYTHING FROM THIS SCHOOL EITHER!”

Narration: “IN THAT MOMENT, I UNDERSTOOD EVERYTHING—WHY THIS WAS HAPPENING TO ME.”

  • The principal’s car drives away. Ji-Woo’s knees give out and she collapses onto the wet pavement, staring after the vehicle.

SFX: 털썩 — slump / collapse to the ground.

Narration: “I LATER FOUND OUT THAT EUN-KYUNG AND YOON-JIN, WHO HAD ALSO SWITCHED ACADEMIES, WERE GOING THROUGH THE SAME THING.”

  • Ji-Woo kneels in the rain, hands clasped and head bowed.

Narration: “THE SCHOOL I ENTERED TO ACHIEVE MY DREAM…”

Narration: “WAS SHATTERING IT INTO A MILLION PIECES.”

Back to the rooftop

  • Hanlim stands in front of the three girls, listening with growing disbelief and anger.

Hanlim: “IS THAT ALL TRUE…?”

Hanlim: “AND YOU ALL WENT THROUGH SOMETHING SIMILAR?”

  • One girl gives a small, weary nod.

SFX: 끄덕 — nod.

  • Hanlim explodes in frustration, fists clenched and feet planted apart. Her removed dark wig/hairpiece lies on the rooftop behind her.

Hanlim: “WHY DIDN’T YOU REPORT THIS TO THE AGENCY?!”

Hanlim: “A CASE THIS HUGE WOULD BE OUR TOP PRIORITY…!”

  • One girl abruptly stands and challenges her.

Student: “DO YOU THINK WE COULD SPEAK UP?”

Hanlim: “WHAT?!”

  • The girl’s face becomes bitter and resigned.

Student: “CONNECTIONS MATTER MORE THAN SKILL IN THIS INDUSTRY.”

Student: “DO YOU THINK ANY ARTS HIGH STUDENT WOULD RISK BEING BLACKLISTED BY THE INDUSTRY TO REPORT THIS?”

  • Hanlim’s expression shifts from anger to shock.

Student: “AGAINST THE PEOPLE WHO HOLD OUR DREAMS HOSTAGE AND TIGHTEN THE NOOSE!”

  • Hanlim looks upward, visibly shaken by the implication.

Student: “WHEN OUR DREAMS ARE EVERYTHING, WHAT CAN WE POSSIBLY DO?!”

Page image 9 — Hanlim stays undercover / Principal Park reveals she already knows

  • Hanlim, once again in the braided dark wig and glasses, walks through a school hallway with her head lowered in thought.

Hanlim / thought: “THIS CASE IS FAR MORE HORRIFIC AND CRUEL THAN I THOUGHT.”

Hanlim / thought: “THE ENTIRE SCHOOL IS HOLDING STUDENTS’ DREAMS HOSTAGE AND DRIVING THEM TO DEATH…”

Hanlim / thought: “SHOULD I DROP THE DISGUISE AND INVESTIGATE AS AN INSPECTOR?”

  • Her eyes narrow behind the glasses.

Hanlim / thought: “NO! IF I DO THAT, THEY’LL DESTROY THE EVIDENCE IMMEDIATELY, MAKING THE INVESTIGATION MUCH HARDER!”

  • A male school official approaches her.

School official: “SHIN SERA?”

School official: “THE PRINCIPAL IS LOOKING FOR YOU.”

School official: “PLEASE HEAD TO THE PRINCIPAL’S OFFICE RIGHT AWAY.”

Principal’s office

  • The gray-haired principal enters carrying a tray with cups and smiles warmly.

Principal: “NICE TO MEET YOU. I’M PARK DO-HEE, THE PRINCIPAL.”

  • Hanlim sits stiffly on a sofa in her student disguise.

Principal: “COFFEE, IS THAT ALRIGHT?”

Hanlim: “YES, THANK YOU.”

  • Both women hold cups across from each other.

Hanlim: “BUT… DO YOU USUALLY OFFER COFFEE TO STUDENTS?”

  • Park Do-hee smiles more broadly.

Principal: “OH MY! WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?”

  • Her tone abruptly becomes knowing.

Principal: “YOU’RE THE TRPA INSPECTOR, AREN’T YOU?”

  • Hanlim freezes mid-sip, eyes snapping up. A large exclamation mark emphasizes the shock.

Principal: “THE ONE HERE TO INVESTIGATE THE BULLYING IN THE CONTEMPORARY DANCE DEPARTMENT.”

  • Park Do-hee leans forward, eyes sharp despite her smile.

Principal: “HOW WAS YOUR FIRST DAY LOOKING AROUND?”

Principal: “HAVE YOU GRASPED THE FULL PICTURE OF THE INCIDENT?”

  • Extreme close-up of the principal’s eye as she continues in a falsely helpful tone.

Principal: “ACTUALLY, I KNOW OF A STUDENT WITH VERY~ BAD BEHAVIOR~”

Principal: “I ASKED TO SEE YOU BECAUSE I THOUGHT I COULD HELP YOU, INSPECTOR…”

Page image 10 — Hanlim realizes the school itself is coordinated

  • Hanlim remains seated with the coffee cup and saucer, but her internal thoughts race.

Hanlim / thought: “WHAT’S GOING ON? HOW DOES THE PRINCIPAL KNOW WHO I AM?”

Hanlim / thought: “I ONLY SENT THE OFFICIAL DOCUMENT TO THE HEAD OF ACADEMIC AFFAIRS! I EVEN ADDED A STRICT CONFIDENTIALITY CLAUSE…”

  • Her mouth curls into a small, understanding smile behind the rim of the cup.

Hanlim / thought: “I SEE… SO THAT’S WHAT HAPPENED.”

Hanlim / thought: “THE WHOLE SCHOOL IS A CARTEL, IS THAT IT?”

  • Close-up: Hanlim lowers the cup slightly, red eyes focused and confident now that she understands the structure she is dealing with.

Hanlim: “YES, PLEASE DO TELL.”
