Scanlation title / credit image

A black-and-red credit card fills the screen. On the right, Na Hwa-jin is shown from the chest up against a fiery red background, wearing an all-black suit and shirt. His long, tousled black hair falls across one eye; a small pointed goatee and faint, confident smile give him a relaxed but dangerous appearance.

Panel 1 — Fiction disclaimer

The chapter opens on a black field that fades gradually into white toward the bottom.

Caption: “THE FOLLOWING IS A WORK OF FICTION. ANY RESEMBLANCE TO REAL-LIFE PEOPLE OR EVENTS IS ENTIRELY COINCIDENTAL.”

The empty gradient creates a long pause before the action resumes.

Panel 2 — Na approaches the back of the classroom

Large Korean footsteps descend through the white gutter: SFX: “뚜벅 / 뚜벅” [measured footsteps; roughly step, step].

The viewpoint is extremely low, framed between Na’s black trouser legs as he walks down a classroom aisle. At the far end, Ryu Jun-hyeong sits loosely in a school chair with his legs spread and one ankle angled outward. He wears a conspicuous red patterned jacket over a rumpled white school shirt and gray undershirt, black trousers, white ankle socks, and black slide sandals. He watches Na approach with a small, self-assured smile rather than standing or showing deference.

A close-up isolates Na’s face. His long hair hangs over his eyes, but the visible eye is fixed forward and alert. The repeated footstep lettering continues beside him.

A matching close-up shows Jun-hyeong’s face at a slight diagonal. He has short, spiked dark hair, a small hoop earring, and a flat, appraising stare. His expression loses some of its casual amusement as Na draws near.

Panel 3 — Na passes him

Na’s back fills the left side as he walks directly past Jun-hyeong instead of stopping to confront him. Jun-hyeong remains seated and follows him with a suspicious sidelong look.

SFX: “스윽” [a smooth passing or sliding movement].

The long white gutter makes the apparent non-confrontation feel deliberate.

Panel 4 — A sudden kick toward the corridor

Without warning, Na plants his weight and drives a powerful side kick toward the open classroom doorway/corridor. The panel is packed with horizontal speed lines; his upper body remains unusually upright and controlled while the striking leg snaps outward.

SFX: “쾅” [a heavy crash/bang].

The target is revealed not to be Jun-hyeong but the school’s headmaster and vice principal, who have been crouching and peering through the corridor window. Both older men are jolted backward and end up sprawled awkwardly against the wall and floor, their faces caught between panic and ingratiating smiles.

Panel 5 — Na catches the administrators spying

Na turns his head toward the two men while standing in the doorway, one hand still in his pocket. The headmaster, a heavyset man with neatly combed black hair, clings to the window ledge. The thinner, gray-haired vice principal kneels behind him with his limbs splayed from the surprise.

Na: “HEY, HEAD-MASTER AND VICE PRINCI-PAL”

Na: “WHATEVER COULD YOU BE DO-ING HERE?”

The headmaster sweats heavily and forces an enormous smile.

Headmaster: “AHAHA! WELL, WE’RE HERE BECAUSE…”

Na’s face fills the next panel. His smile is narrow and openly contemptuous.

Na: “FOR THE PEOPLE IN CHARGE OF THIS SCHOOL,”

Na: “I WONDER WHY YOU FEEL THE NEED TO SCURRY AROUND LIKE RATS!”

Panel 6 — Series title card

Against a white field, a dark blue silhouette of Na stands with a long baton resting across one shoulder. Two crossed batons and red-white-blue chevrons form an insignia behind him.

Large Korean title: “참교육” (True Education / Get Schooled).

Korean credits below: “글 채용택 그림 한가람” — story by Chae Yong-taek; art by Han Ga-ram.

Panel 7 — The headmaster’s explanation

The headmaster scratches the back of his head and laughs nervously, sweat running down his cheeks.

Headmaster: “AH… HAHAHA! IT’S NOTHING, NOTHING AT ALL!”

Headmaster: “IT’S JUST THAT… WE WERE… ERM… JUST WONDERING WHAT KIND OF THINGS AN AGENT OF THE BUREAU COULD TEACH OUR STU-DENTS, SO…”

He edges closer and lowers his voice as if about to share privileged information.

Headmaster: “AND- ALSO… THERE’S SOMETHING THAT WE FEEL YOU SHOULD KNOW CONCERNING A CERTAIN STUDENT…”

Na stands relaxed with both hands in his pockets. The vice principal watches anxiously from behind.

Na: “SOME-THING I SHOULD KNOW?”

The headmaster leans so close that his mouth is beside Na’s ear and partially shields the whisper with one hand.

Headmaster: “THAT BOY AT THE VERY BACK OF THE CLASS… RYU JUN-HYEONG…”

Headmaster: “HE’S ACTUALLY THE SON OF THE HONORABLE RYU KWANG-PIL, THE LAWMAKER WE MENTIONED EARLIER…!”

Na’s visible eye widens slightly—not in fear, but in sharp recognition—while the headmaster studies his reaction.

Reader Page 2

Panel 1 — “A politician’s boy”

Na steps over the wooden doorway threshold in his black slide sandal and white sock.

Na: “IS THAT SO? A POLITICIAN’S BOY?!”

SFX: “척” [a firm step or placement].

The headmaster follows him into the corridor, still speaking rapidly. Jun-hyeong’s face appears in the extreme foreground at the left edge, indicating that he can see or overhear the exchange.

Headmaster: “YES, INDEED! AND, I’M TOLD THAT KWANG-PIL WAS CLASS-MATES WITH THE HEAD OF THE BUREAU OF EDUCATION IN COLLEGE… SO, I THINK IT MAY BE BEST TO EXERCISE CAUTION…”

The warning is framed as concern for Na, but the headmaster’s body language—bent posture, nervous grin, and clasping gestures—makes his fear of political retaliation obvious.

Headmaster: “DON’T GET ME WRONG, I’M NOT DOUBTING YOUR TEACHING METHODOLOGY! I’M MERELY POINTING IT OUT, IN CASE YOU DIDN’T KNOW…”

Jun-hyeong stands in the classroom with a smug, almost pleased expression. A bald, tattoo-marked student in a purple-and-mint jacket and another dark-haired student stand behind him, watching.

Panel 2 — Na performs exaggerated relief

Na turns away with a quiet, ironic chuckle.

Na: “HOHO…”

A small handwritten aside near the headmaster reads: “Hey, Jun-hyeong! How’s your father?” The headmaster waves ingratiatingly toward Jun-hyeong, casually demonstrating the very favoritism he has just described.

Na suddenly wheels back toward the headmaster with theatrical alarm, eyes wide and one hand extended.

Na: “THANK GOD! I ALMOST MADE A HUGE MISTAKE!”

Na: “IF I ACCIDENTALLY LAID A FINGER ON THE PRECIOUS MR. JUN-HYEONG…!”

Jun-hyeong watches the performance with a knowing smile.

Na: “THAT MOST ESTEEMED LAWMAKER WOULD’VE GOTTEN VERY UPSET,”

Na: “WHICH WOULD HAVE LED TO MY BOSS BEING PUT IN AN UNCOMFORTABLE POSITION!”

Panel 3 — Sarcasm aimed at the administrators

From a high overhead angle, Na bows and opens both hands toward the headmaster as though sincerely grateful. Jun-hyeong and two of his followers stand behind Na in a loose line.

Na: “CORRECT! FINALLY, YER’ MAKING SOME SENSE!”

Na: “THANK YOU FOR IN-FORMING ME ABOUT THIS, OH SO KINDLY!”

The headmaster, missing the warning in Na’s tone, pumps both fists with visible relief.

Headmaster: “IT’S NO PROBLEM AT ALL~ ON A DIFFERENT NOTE, I’D LIKE TO ARRANGE A MEETING AFTER YOUR CLASS, REGARDING OUR SCHOOL…”

A close-up shows Jun-hyeong smiling to himself.

SFX: “씩” [a sly grin].

Panel 4 — Na grabs Jun-hyeong

Before the headmaster can finish, Na’s large hand slams across Jun-hyeong’s face, fingers spread over his forehead, eye, cheek, and jaw. Jun-hyeong’s visible eye snaps open in disbelief.

SFX: “파악” [a sudden grab/clamp].

Jun-hyeong grabs Na’s wrist with both hands and recoils.

Jun-hyeong: “A-ACK! WHAT THE-!”

Na leans toward the headmaster while still controlling the student’s head, wearing a sharp, almost cheerful smile.

Na: “MR. HEADMASTER…”

Na: “KIDS ARE EASILY IN-FLUENCED.”

Panel 5 — Na’s diagnosis of the school’s authority culture

Na tightens his grip while the headmaster’s face is shown in alarm.

Na: “WHEN THEY SEE PEOPLE IN CHARGE OF THEIR OWN SCHOOL BEND OVER BACKWARDS, KISSING THEIR ASS…”

Jun-hyeong lashes out and strikes Na while wrenching at the restraining hand.

Jun-hyeong: “FUCK OFF!”

SFX: Korean impact/gripping lettering surrounds the movement, including “꽈악” [tight squeeze] and “퍼억 / 퍽” [heavy impact].

Na continues speaking through the hit without losing the thread of his argument.

Na: “THEY TEND TO DEVELOP A SUPERIORITY COMPLEX, EVEN TOWARDS THEIR ACTUAL SUPERIORS TO-WARDS THEIR OWN FIGURES OF AU-THORITY!”

Na: “ONE KID WOULD SEE ANOTHER TREATING THEIR TEACHER LIKE SHIT, THEN FOLLOW SUIT, AND THE CHAIN GOES ON. AS THEY SAY, ‘MONKEY SEE, MONKEY DO’.”

Na: “THAT’S WHAT RESULTS IN THE CREATION OF THIS CAMPUS-WIDE ‘CULTURE’ OF BULLYING.”

The page closes on Jun-hyeong’s arm and hand dropping heavily at his side.

SFX: “추욱” [the limb/body slackening or drooping].

Reader Page 3

Panel 1 — Jun-hyeong is driven to the floor

The slackening arm from the previous page resolves into Jun-hyeong collapsing face-first onto the classroom floor. His red jacket spreads across his back, and both hands splay against the boards as the impact lands. Na stands directly behind him, upright and composed, with one hand still in his pocket and the other loosely extended. The headmaster’s tense fist appears at the left edge; another student stands frozen in the doorway behind Na.

SFX: “쿠웅” [a deep, body-weight thud].

The contrast is stark: Jun-hyeong is folded down at everyone’s feet while Na does not even adopt a fighting stance.

Panel 2 — Na warns the faculty as well as the students

The headmaster and vice principal stare in open horror, sweat beading across their faces.

Na: “IN ORDER FOR THIS SCHOOL TO RECOVER FROM ITS PA-THETIC STATE OF AFFAIRS, WE MUST FIRST ELI-MINATE SAID ‘CULTURE’.”

Na: “SO, IF YOU’RE GOING TO QUESTION MY METHODS ONE MORE TIME,”

Na closes the distance until his face is inches from the headmaster’s. His eyes are wide and unwavering; the headmaster has to tilt his head back to meet the stare.

A black, rough-edged speech balloon emphasizes the threat:

Na: “YOU’LL DISCOVER THAT I HAVE THE AUTHORITY TO EXERCISE MY ‘EDUCATIONAL PHILOSOPHY’ ONTO THE FACULTY AS WELL, YOUR-SELF INCLUDED.”

The wording makes explicit that teachers and administrators are not exempt from the Bureau’s intervention.

Panel 3 — Emergency faculty assembly

Na walks away down the corridor with the vice principal following a step behind. In the lower-left foreground, Jun-hyeong’s spiky silhouette remains visible, showing that he watches them leave from the floor/classroom.

Na: “MR. VICE PRINCIPAL, WOULD YOU BE SO KIND TO CALL AN EMER-GENCY ASSEMBLY IN THE GYMNASIUM FOR THE FACULTY?”

Vice principal: “ALL- ALL OF THEM?”

Na: “I’LL MAKE THE ANNOUNCE-MENT.”

A close-up returns to Jun-hyeong on his hands and knees. His shoulders are hunched, his fists brace against the floor, and his face is twisted with contained rage and humiliation. The shadowing around his eyes makes his anger look almost predatory.

Panel 4 — Na introduces himself to the assembled teachers

The scene shifts to a bright exterior view of the school buildings and courtyard beneath a blue sky.

Na (announcement): “I’M FIELD INSPECTOR NA HWA-JIN.”

Na: “WHILE STUDYING THIS SCHOOL FOR TWO DAYS, I’VE COME ACROSS SEVERAL ‘TUMORS’ PLAGUING THE CAM-PUS, AND THOUGH I WOULD PREFER TO FIX THINGS MYSELF,”

Inside the gymnasium/multipurpose room, the faculty stand in several dense rows facing Na, who is alone at the far end beside two tall gray storage cabinets. His black clothing isolates him visually from the varied office wear of the teachers.

Na: “I CANNOT DO IT ALL ALONE. SO, I INVITE YOU TO ASSIST ME IN DOING SO.”

Panel 5 — Temporary authority for every teacher

A closer view shows a cross-section of the faculty: younger and older teachers, men and women, some wearing glasses or formal suits, others dressed more casually. Their expressions range from surprise and anxiety to cautious attention.

Na: “WE CARE ABOUT OUR STUDENTS, AND WE ALL WANT TO MOLD THEM IN-TO FUNCTIONAL ADULTS.”

Na: “TO HELP THIS, YOU ARE HEREBY GRANTED THE SAME AUTHORITY GIVEN TO ME TO EXERCISE AS FIELD INSPECTOR DURING YOUR TEACHING DUTIES.”

The teachers look unsettled by the scale of what he is offering.

Panel 6 — Responsibility and restraint

Na turns toward one of the gray cabinets and reaches for its handle.

Na: “ANY COLLATERAL DAMAGE THAT MAY ENSUE WILL BE MY RESPON-SIBILITY TO BEAR,”

SFX: “철컥” [the cabinet latch clicking open].

Na: “SO I REQUEST IN ADVANCE THAT YOU DON’T GO OVER-BOARD WITH THIS NEW-FOUND POWER.”

The double doors swing open with a long metallic creak, revealing the teachers’ shocked faces through the widening gap.

SFX: “끼이익” [a prolonged hinge creak].

Na: “NOW, EVERY-ONE~!”

The leading male teacher stares forward with wide eyes and a drop of sweat on his cheek.

Na: “WHAT WILL BE YOUR TOOL OF CHOICE?”

The open cabinet is an organized arsenal of disciplinary implements: long wooden and lacquered staffs, sword-like practice weapons with guards, a yellow club/bat, thin canes and rods, black tactical-looking batons, ribbed handles, paddles, and other striking tools mounted vertically and horizontally on a pegboard. Dramatic black lines converge toward the selection, turning the invitation into the page’s visual punch line.

Reader Page 4

Panel 1 — A teacher objects to corporal punishment

A female teacher with brown hair tied in a low ponytail, a mustard-brown overshirt, and a small necklace raises one hand toward her mouth in alarm. She speaks from the middle of the faculty crowd while several colleagues glance at her.

Female teacher: “WAIT, JUST ONE MO-MENT…”

Female teacher: “YOU WANT US TO DISCIPLINE STUDENTS?”

She turns toward Na and the open cabinet, sweating but continuing firmly.

Female teacher: “NO MATTER HOW DELINQUENT A STUDENT MAY BE,”

Female teacher: “WHAT RIGHT DO WE HAVE, AS HUMANS, TO PHYSICALLY…”

Her objection trails off when another faculty member moves decisively past her.

Panel 2 — Mr. Kim makes his selection

A male teacher steps directly up to the cabinet. Na stands to the left and watches without interfering. The woman who objected and another teacher stare after the man.

Female teacher: “MR. KIM?”

Mr. Kim is a middle-aged man with swept-back dark hair, rectangular glasses, a collared shirt, and a pale sweater vest. His hand reaches toward a long, light-colored rod mounted vertically inside the cabinet.

Mr. Kim: “YES… THAT’S IT… THAT’S WHAT I WANNA SEE!”

SFX: “턱” [his hand settling onto/gripping the implement].

He draws the object out and holds it like a treasured relic. The rod is rendered with an exaggerated golden-white glow, while black speed lines radiate around him. His eyes shine behind his glasses, and his grin becomes intensely nostalgic.

Mr. Kim: “THIS ENCHANTING SILHOUETTE… THIS PERFECT BALANCE IN WEIGHT!”

Mr. Kim: “HAA… HOW LONG HAS IT BEEN…?”

A close-up shows the glowing stick reflected across his lenses.

Mr. Kim: “THIS IS THE EPIC REVIVAL OF THE GOLDEN GLUE STICK!”

The scanlation later varies this phrase as “golden cue stick”; the object is presented comedically as a legendary school-discipline rod.

Panel 3 — The faculty’s fear turns into nostalgia

The teachers begin crowding around both open cabinets and examining the implements. Na remains off to the side, watching the mood reverse itself. The previously hesitant staff now point, reach, and discuss the equipment with growing enthusiasm.

Unidentified teacher: “OHOHO~ THIS TICKLES MY NOSTALGIC BONES!”

Unidentified teacher: “A ROD MADE OUT OF BAMBOO? WHAT IMMACULATE QUALITY!”

Their language and animated gestures make clear that many of them remember an older, far more physical school culture.

Panel 4 — One week later

Two boxed narration captions appear over a white gutter while repeated Korean impact lettering falls between them.

Narration: “A WEEK HAS PASSED SINCE FIELD INSPECTOR NA HWA-JIN ENTERED THE SCHOOL,”

SFX: “퍼억 / 퍽” [repeated blows].

Narration: “AND THE SCHOOL CULTURE HAS ALREADY UNDERGONE SEVERAL SWEEPING CHANGES.”

A young male teacher with a bowl haircut, very large round glasses, a sweater vest, white shirt, and red tie stands rigidly with red boxing gloves held in front of his body. Although his expression is blank and almost timid, he is the source of a furious reprimand directed off-panel.

Teacher: “ARE YOU GUYS TRYING TO BE GANGSTERS,”

Teacher: “OR ARE YOU COSPLAYING BEING FUCKING HOMELESS?!”

Panel 5 — Staff confront public bullying

In an outdoor rubbish/recycling area, several male students have been forced down onto hands and knees. An older male teacher stands behind them and swings a long rod downward, producing a white burst at impact. Another bespectacled teacher watches from the foreground, sweat on his cheek.

Teacher: “IF YOU WANT TO DRINK COLA, BUY IT!”

Teacher: “WHY ARE YOU BUGGING SOME OTHER KID FOR IT?!”

Mr. Kim—or another teacher wielding the same celebrated rod—is shown in a manic close-up as repeated blows and student cries continue.

Teacher: “WITH THE GOLDEN CUE STICK PHOENIX RISEN FROM THE ASHES,”

Teacher: “I HEREBY DECLARE A ZERO-TOLERANCE POLICY ON ANY BULLYING GOING ON IN HERE. DO YOU UNDERS-TAND?!”

The change from “glue stick” to “cue stick” is preserved exactly as printed.

Panel 6 — The older male teachers reverse course

Narration: “THE MALE TEACHERS IN THE 40S, PENT UP WITH THEIR EMASCU-LATION OVER SE-VERAL YEARS,”

A glasses-wearing teacher grins wildly with both hands raised around a long staff, preparing another full swing. The dynamic low angle and blue-sky background make the pose resemble a triumphant action hero rather than an ordinary instructor.

Narration: “HAVE MADE A COMPLETE 180.”

In the schoolyard, a male teacher holds a gray baton while multiple students remain bent over on the ground in a punishment posture.

Teacher: “OH? YOU’RE SHAKING? THAT’S THE DIRTIED SOUL INSIDE YOU WANT-ING TO BE LET OUT!”

Panel 7 — An authoritarian classroom culture

Narration: “THEY ENFORCED AN UNUSUAL AUTHORITARIAN POSITION IN THEIR CLASSROOMS.”

A group of students strain shoulder-to-shoulder beneath an enormous wooden log. Their faces contort with pain; hands clamp around the wood to keep it from crushing down onto them. A teacher behind them gestures energetically as though leading a drill.

Teacher: “LET ME HEAR YOU SAY IT LOUDER!”

The students struggle to answer while still supporting the log, and the scene continues directly onto the next reader page.

Reader Page 5

Panel 1 — The log punishment and student backlash

The students continue staggering beneath the massive log. One squeezes his eyes shut; another bares his teeth; a third looks ready to collapse. The teacher behind them appears delighted with their exertion.

Student: “F-FUCK! WHERE THE FUCK DID THEY GET THIS BIG ASS LOG?!”

Narration: “OF COURSE, MANY STUDENTS DIDN’T TAKE WELL TO THE SUDDEN SHIFT IN POWER.”

Panel 2 — A student tries to attack a teacher

A violent impact fills a narrow panel as the ponytailed female teacher in the mustard sweater/overshirt is caught amid white motion bursts.

SFX: “콰앙” [a loud crash/impact].

Female teacher: “KYAA-!”

A large male student in a black track jacket with bright green sleeve stripes corners her beside a classroom wall. He holds a bamboo rod horizontally above her head, leans in with a threatening grin, and demands an explanation.

Student: “WHAT WERE YOU ABOUT TO DO WITH THIS? WERE YOU GONNA HIT ME?”

The teacher’s hands are clenched defensively close to her chest. The physical size difference is emphasized by the student looming over her.

Panel 3 — The bamboo rod snaps

The female teacher faces him squarely. In the next explosive panel, the bamboo rod breaks into jagged pieces against the student’s upper body/center line.

SFX: “빠각” [a sharp crack/snap].

The student’s aggression immediately turns into panic.

Student: “I HOPE TO ESCAPE THIS FUCKING WASTE-LAND BEFORE I DO!”

The line appears to be part of his hostile outburst, delivered just before Na intervenes.

Panel 4 — Na interrupts the confrontation

Na appears in the classroom doorway, one hand open in a casual stop gesture.

Na: “HEY, HEY, THAT’S NOT RIGHT AT ALL!”

He smiles warmly—almost playfully—while resting a dark baton against his shoulder.

Na: “ESCAPING FROM SCHOOL?”

Na: “THAT’S NOT SOMETHING KIDS WITH BRIGHT FUTURES SHOULD BE THINK-ING ABOUT~”

The cheerful tone is deliberately at odds with the threat implied by the baton.

Panel 5 — “Somewhere more private”

Na hooks an arm firmly around the student’s shoulders and neck, pulling him away from the teacher. The student’s eyes widen as the baton remains visible near his chest.

Na: “NOW,”

SFX: “턱” [Na’s arm/hand locking into position].

Na: “HOW ABOUT YOU AND I GO SOMEWHERE MORE PRIVATE, WHERE WE CAN ‘TALK’, HMM?”

The student claws at Na’s shoulder as he is walked away.

Student: “AH! LET ME OUT!”

Na escorts him through a doorway into a darkened room.

SFX: “끼익” [the door opening with a creak].

Panel 6 — Na’s “counselling”

Narration: “THOSE WHO WERE AGAINST THE CHANGE, HOWEVER, WERE BLESSED WITH FIELD INSPECTOR NA HWA-JIN’S BRAND OF ‘EDUCATION’”

The door closes with a firm click. A sheet of paper is taped to it with the handwritten notice:

Sign: “Counselling In Progress”

SFX: “탁” [the door shutting].

After an implied period of unseen “counselling,” the door creaks open again.

SFX: “끼익” [door opening].

Na emerges with both hands resting companionably on the student’s shoulders.

Na: “NOW, NOW! TIME TO GET YOUR SPIRITS UP AND GET TO CLASS, ALRIGHT?”

Na is beaming. The student, by contrast, is pale, rigid, drenched in sweat, and staring forward with unfocused, traumatized eyes.

Panel 7 — The teacher sees the reformed student

In the corridor, the student turns toward the female teacher. She instinctively recoils with both fists raised near her chest, while he freezes at the sight of her.

SFX: “흠칫” [a startled flinch].

The student’s face crumples. Tears stream down both cheeks, and his jaw trembles.

Student: “TE…TEACH…”

Narration: “EVERYONE CAME BACK RE-FORMED.”

He drops fully to his knees and bows his head before her.

Student: “PLEASE, TEACH ME!”

The female teacher covers her mouth with both hands, visibly shocked by the total reversal.

Reader Page 6

Panel 1 — The new discipline reaches ordinary classroom behavior

A close-up shows an adult hand clamping painfully onto the hair/sideburn area beside a male student’s ear. The student’s cheek compresses under the grip, and his head is dragged sideways.

Teacher: “HEY, HEY, HEY!”

SFX: “꽈악” [a hard squeeze or pinch].

The action is smaller than the spectacular punishments shown in the montage, but it establishes that the faculty’s revived authority now extends into routine classroom control.

Panel 2 — A teacher punishes a student for sleeping

A middle-aged female teacher bends over a seated boy and continues pulling at his ear/hair while scolding him. He twists in his chair and raises a shoulder defensively. Nearby students glance over rather than chatting freely.

Female teacher: “HOW MANY TIMES HAVE I TOLD YOU NOT TO DOZE OFF IN CLASS! HUH?!”

In the rear of the room, Jun-hyeong sits with his head lowered. His red statement jacket is gone; he now wears the school’s white shirt loosely open over a black top, with his cross necklace and hoop earring still visible. His posture is withdrawn, but the lowered face reads as simmering resentment rather than submission.

Panel 3 — Jun-hyeong is ordered to present his wrists

The teacher’s demand carries across the classroom:

Female teacher: “SHOW ME YOUR WRISTS! SHOW THEM!”

Jun-hyeong slowly straightens and extends one arm toward the desk. His expression is flat and hostile, his brows lowered and lips pressed together. The framing emphasizes that even the politically protected student is being made to comply with the same punishment ritual as everyone else.

Panel 4 — Anger spills outside the classroom

An exterior establishing panel shows the school building in daylight. A student’s shout erupts over the otherwise calm architecture.

Student: “AH- A REAL FUCKIN PAIN IN THE ASS, THIS PLACE IS!!”

Panel 5 — The rooftop grievance session

On the rooftop, Jun-hyeong and several male followers have arranged themselves around discarded classroom desks and chairs. The bald, pierced student in a black hoodie is the loudest. He stands or leans forward while Jun-hyeong remains seated apart, smoking with his back against a wall.

Bald student: “THE FUCK IS THIS SUPPOSED TO BE? A SCHOOL, OR A FUCKING JUVEN-ILE DETENTION FACILITY?!”

He gestures furiously toward his lower body, complaining about the physical punishment.

Bald student: “I CAN’T EVEN SIT DOWN TO TAKE A SHIT BECAUSE MY ASS STINGS SO MUCH! FUCK!”

The other boys look tired, bruised, or irritated. Their complaints confirm that the teachers’ campaign has reached Jun-hyeong’s own circle rather than merely targeting isolated bullies.

Panel 6 — Jun-hyeong’s friends demand that he use his connections

A close-up of the bald student shows his jaw clenched and eyes wide with desperation.

Bald student: “ARE YOU REALLY GOING TO LET THEM TAKE OVER OUR SCHOOL LIKE THIS? JUN-HYEONG?!”

The view widens. Jun-hyeong sits with his legs spread, one arm resting loosely while smoke rises from the cigarette near his mouth. Two other boys occupy desks nearby, watching him for an answer.

Bald student: “FUCKING TELL TO YOUR DAD OR MAKE THIS A VIRAL NEWS THING, SOME-THING!”

Panel 7 — “What’s your authority for?”

The bald student presses the point:

Bald student: “WHAT’S YOUR AUTHORITY FOR, IF NOT FOR THIS EXACT SITUA-TION?!”

Jun-hyeong answers without moving from the wall. His eyes are half-lidded with contempt.

Jun-hyeong: “SHUT YOUR HOLE. YOU DON’T KNOW SHIT!”

Panel 8 — The intervention is politically protected

Jun-hyeong explains what he has learned through his father’s office.

Jun-hyeong: “I TALKED TO DAD’S SECRETARY AND SHE TOLD ME THAT THIS IS SUPPO-SED TO BE A ‘TEST RUN’.”

Jun-hyeong: “THEY’RE NOT STUPID. THEY KNOW WHAT’S GOING ON. IN FACT, THEY ORGAN-IZED IT THEM-SELVES!”

His wording indicates that the authorities are not overlooking Na’s methods; the methods are part of a deliberate pilot program.

Panel 9 — A news scandal would not necessarily help

Jun-hyeong continues while the bald student’s anger gives way to uncertainty.

Jun-hyeong: “IF THIS GOES ON THE NEWS, THEY ALREADY HAVE MULTIPLE EXCUSES TO SAVE THEIR ASSES!”

Jun-hyeong: “THE RULING PARTY PASSED THE BILL, SO IT’S HARD FOR MY DAD TO STEP IN RIGHT NOW!”

The political connection that previously protected Jun-hyeong is therefore constrained by party interests and the public framing of the experiment.

Panel 10 — Public opinion favors punishment

Jun-hyeong takes another drag and speaks through the smoke.

Jun-hyeong: “MAKING IT GO VIRAL WILL JUST BRING IN A SLEW OF ‘THEY DESERVED IT’ COMMENTS,”

Jun-hyeong: “SO THERE’S NO REAL WAY WE CAN GET AROUND THIS FUCKING POLICY...”

The close framing on his narrowed eye makes clear that he is analyzing the problem rather than accepting defeat.

Panel 11 — He rejects simple surrender

From a high view, the rooftop group appears scattered and frustrated among desks, planters, and the surrounding fence.

Bald student: “SO, WHAT?! WE’RE JUST SUPPOSED TO CAVE TO THE TEACHERS?!”

Jun-hyeong looks toward him with open disdain.

Jun-hyeong: “YOU STUPID OR SOMETHING? WHO SAID THAT?”

Panel 12 — Someone has been summoned

The rooftop door swings open.

SFX: “끼익” [a door creaking open].

A male student in a white shirt and dark sweater vest steps through. The boys turn toward him, and Jun-hyeong’s expression begins to change from irritation to calculation.

Reader Page 7

Panel 1 — Jun-hyeong unveils the beginning of a plan

The newly arrived student stands near the rooftop entrance, uncertain under the gang’s attention. Jun-hyeong remains seated in the center of the group and looks up with a slow, knowing smirk.

A close-up isolates the lower half of Jun-hyeong’s face as the smile deepens.

Jun-hyeong: “I’M THE ONE WHO’S ITCHIN’ TO DO SOMETHING THE MOST!”

After a long white pause, he announces the method in deliberately theatrical language.

Jun-hyeong: “NOW, OBSERVE AS I FOLLOW A POLI-TICIAN’S FOOT-STEPS!”

A scanlation/editorial aside printed beside the balloon reads:

Editor note: “ED NOTE: AND SAW THIS KID IN HALF.”

The joke compares Jun-hyeong’s announcement to a stage magician presenting a volunteer, while the visual context suggests he intends to use another student as an expendable instrument.

Panel 2 — The summoned student

The boy at the door is shown clearly: short brown bowl-cut hair, large round glasses, a white shirt, red tie, and navy sweater vest. He scratches the back of his head and looks anxious but obedient.

Bespectacled student: “DID YOU CALL FOR ME?”

The page leaves the specifics of Jun-hyeong’s instructions unstated and cuts to a later moment.

Panel 3 — Quiet school exterior

A broad exterior panel shows the covered walkway and curved glass-fronted school building. No students are visible. The long white gutter and empty architecture create a calm interval after the rooftop plotting.

Panel 4 — The bespectacled student carries noodles

The same student walks through the courtyard holding a large cup of spicy instant noodles and chopsticks. He looks down at the cup with wary concentration, as though careful not to spill it.

Na calls to him from nearby. In the foreground, Na’s black hair and shoulder appear as he turns toward the student.

Na: “OI! ROOF-TOP SWORDS-MA-I MEAN, SUICIDAL BOY! STILL RUNNING ERRANDS FOR YOUR LITTLE GANG OF BULLIES?”

Na starts to say “rooftop swordsman,” then crudely corrects himself to “suicidal boy,” referring to the student’s earlier rooftop crisis. The boy startles and hugs the noodle cup closer.

Panel 5 — “These are my noodles”

A close-up shows the boy breaking into a broad, relieved smile; his eyes close behind the round lenses.

Bespectacled student: “NOPE! THESE ARE MY NOODLES!”

Na smiles as well. The interaction is notably gentler than his dealings with Jun-hyeong’s group.

Panel 6 — A shared bench

Na and the student sit side by side on a low stone planter bordering pink flowers. The boy bends over the cup, slurping noodles with chopsticks. Na sits with his legs spread, one hand partly covering his mouth as he laughs.

SFX: “후루루룩” [loud noodle slurping].

The ordinary lunch scene visually separates the student from the rooftop gang’s atmosphere of intimidation.

Panel 7 — Na checks whether the school has improved

Na holds a cigarette between his fingers and turns toward the student.

Na: “SO, HOW ABOUT IT? IS THE SCHOOL ANY BET-TER?”

The boy continues eating while answering respectfully.

Bespectacled student: “YES, SIR... THANKS TO YOU, I DON’T GET PICKED ON ANYMORE!”

Bespectacled student: “I FEEL LIKE THERE’S A POINT IN GOING TO SCHOOL, NOW.”

His statement is sincere, but the image of him eating rapidly suggests he is still tense or accustomed to being interrupted.

Panel 8 — Na warns that the improvement may not last

A close-up shows Na watching him from behind the cigarette. His expression becomes more sober.

Na: “ALTHOUGH, IT’S PROBABLY ONLY TEMPORARY...”

The boy looks up from the noodles.

Na: “I MEAN... SURE, THE TEACHERS ARE MAINTAINING ORDER RIGHT NOW,”

Na: “BUT, I DON’T TRULY THINK YOU CHANGED ANY OF THE DELINQUENT’S MINDS.”

The observation distinguishes forced compliance from genuine reform and undercuts the triumphant montage of faculty discipline.

Panel 9 — The student identifies Na’s vulnerability

The noodle cup is almost empty as the boy lowers it in his hand.

Bespectacled student: “YOU SAID YOU WERE A FIELD INSPECTOR, RIGHT, MISTER? THAT MEANS YOU’LL RETURN BACK TO THE AGENCY FROM WHENCE YOU CAME,”

His concern continues directly onto the next reader page.

Panel 1 — The school will revert after Na leaves

The boy’s warning completes over a close-up of Na’s profile.

Bespectacled student: “AND THE MOMENT YOU DISAPPEAR, THE SCHOOL WILL REVERT BACK TO HOW IT WAS.”

Na’s eye narrows slightly. He does not dispute the logic.

Panel 2 — Na rejects the boy’s fatalism

Na suddenly strikes or claps the student sharply across the upper back/shoulder, jolting him forward so hard that noodles protrude from his mouth. The Korean impact lettering dominates the center of the panel.

Na: “COWARD! WHY ARE YOU SO SCARED?!”

SFX: “짝” [a sharp smack].

The student coughs and twists from the blow while Na grins beside him.

Na: “YOU THINK I’M STUPID ENOUGH TO NOT KNOW THAT ALREADY?”

Panel 3 — Na claims to have planned for the aftermath

Na leans back on the planter and raises one hand in a loose, confident gesture.

Na: “HAVE A LITTLE FAITH! I’VE GOT THIS ALL PLANNED OUT...”

The bespectacled student, still recovering from the smack, turns toward someone approaching from the courtyard.

A weak voice interrupts:

Injured student: “MIS... MISTER...”

Injured student: “PLEASE... HELP ME...”

Panel 4 — A severely beaten student appears

The bespectacled boy stares in shock, eyes enormous behind his glasses and sweat appearing along his cheek.

The newcomer is the large male student whom Na previously took into the private “counselling” room. His uniform is dirty and disordered, his face is covered in abrasions and bruises, one eye is badly swollen, and blood trails from his nose. His exhausted posture suggests he has only just managed to reach the courtyard.

Injured student: “IF I KEEP ON LIVING LIKE THIS, I MIGHT LEGITIMATELY DIE.”

The dark bruising and vacant eyes make the plea appear immediately credible.

Panel 5 — “Please, save me”

A full-body view shows the injured student standing unsteadily with both arms hanging at his sides. His shirt is partly open at the collar, sleeves and vest are scuffed, and small cuts cover his exposed skin.

Injured student: “PLEASE, SAVE ME.”

The request is directed squarely at Na, using the field inspector’s protective role as the bait.

Panel 6 — Na agrees to hear him out

Na rises from the planter and flicks his cigarette away. The bespectacled student remains seated, watching with alarm. The cup of noodles has been set down beside him.

SFX: “휙” [the cigarette or hand flicking away].

Na begins walking with the injured boy.

Na: “FOLLOW ME, KID. LET’S HEAR WHAT HAPP-ENED.”

His hands return to his pockets, and his face is serious rather than suspicious. The injured student follows one step behind with his head lowered.

Panel 7 — The apparent victim trails Na

Na crosses the courtyard in the foreground. Behind him, the battered student follows at a slow, uneven pace. The panel gives Na’s back to the student and leaves a conspicuous amount of space between them, creating tension around what the student may do once they are away from witnesses.

Panel 8 — Fear behind the plea

A vertical close-up shows the injured student’s face in extreme detail. Sweat runs down his cheeks and forehead; blood remains under his nose; one eye is swollen nearly shut. His teeth are clenched and his pupils dart sideways. The expression can read both as terror and as the strain of carrying out an order he does not want to obey.

Panel 9 — Jun-hyeong’s strategy is revealed in voice-over

A close-up of Jun-hyeong’s face appears against dense vertical shadow lines. He has a cigarette between his lips and looks grimly satisfied.

Jun-hyeong: “TRYING TO TAKE THE LEGAL ROUTE IS POINTLESS. THE FIELD AGENT KNOWS IT, TOO.”

Jun-hyeong: “I’D LIKE TO SEE HIM TRY THIS ONE OUT FOR SIZE!”

The juxtaposition confirms that the injured student’s appeal is part of Jun-hyeong’s plan rather than an independent request for rescue.

Panel 10 — Turning Na’s own theory against him

Jun-hyeong recalls Na’s earlier words.

Jun-hyeong: “HE SAID THAT STUDENTS WERE EASILY INFLUENCED,”

Large red Korean lettering—“푸욱”—drops over the image [a deep thrust, plunge, or stabbing impact]. Jun-hyeong’s eye widens in a stylized flash of anticipation.

Panel 11 — The ambush

Jun-hyeong: “LET’S SHOW HIM HOW RIGHT HE IS!”

The injured student lunges into Na’s midsection. Both of his hands are gathered around Na’s lowered hand/wrist area, and a small object at the point of contact has been intentionally blurred or obscured in the supplied image. Dark specks and the Korean thrust effect imply violent contact. Na’s torso jerks backward; his free hand opens reflexively, and his eyes widen as he looks down at the student.

Because the object itself is censored/blurred and the chapter ends at the instant of contact, its exact identity and whether Na has been penetrated cannot be confirmed from this chapter alone. The visible staging strongly suggests an attempted attack with a concealed sharp object, while Na may also be catching or controlling the attacking hand.

Panel 12 — Cliffhanger and production credits

The final low-angle image holds on the two figures’ legs and the locked contact between their bodies. The injured student drives forward with one foot planted; Na braces backward in black trousers and shoes. A small yellow object lies on the pavement in the background, likely the discarded cigarette.

No resolution is shown before the production credit block.

Visible Korean credits:

  • “이지영”
  • “송아라”
  • “기획/제작” [planning/production]
  • “YLAB”

End of Chapter 3

The chapter ends on an unresolved attempted ambush: Jun-hyeong has responded to Na’s direct disciplinary campaign by coercing or influencing a visibly injured student into approaching Na under the guise of seeking protection. The outcome of the contact is withheld for the next chapter.
