Images 001–008 — Na feeds the child¶
Na catches up with the boy behind the convenience store.
He does not seize the food or demand an explanation.
He opens the banana milk and tells him to drink slowly because swallowing too quickly may make him choke.
The child drinks while watching Na with suspicion.
Na asks:
- where his parents are;
- who injured his face;
- and whether he remembers a former preschool teacher.
The boy does not answer directly.
When Na turns briefly, the child runs again.
A woman recognizes him.
IS THAT YOU, MINSEO?
She introduces herself as a preschool teacher and asks Na who he is.
Images 009–016 — Minseo’s preschool behavior¶
The teacher examines Minseo’s bruises and asks whether he is being abused at home.
A flashback shows the six-year-old at preschool.
Minseo was:
- unusually quiet;
- unable to play comfortably with other children;
- and intensely protective of food.
During lunch he coughed and spat blood.
The teacher called his mother and said he needed a hospital immediately.
The mother did not arrive.
Minseo’s father eventually came to collect him.
The teacher felt uneasy before he even entered the room.
Images 017–024 — The father reveals the violence openly¶
The father acts superficially polite in front of staff.
Once he reaches Minseo, he grabs him roughly and orders him to leave.
The teacher follows because her instinct says the child is unsafe.
At the apartment, she hears Minseo pleading through the door.
DAD! I’M HUNGRY!
The father hits him and screams that the child is ruining everything.
The teacher contacts child-protection services.
The agency does not arrive before the father leaves with Minseo.
When the teacher returns later, the apartment is empty.
Minseo remains absent from preschool for more than a week.
Images 025–032 — The teacher searches alone¶
The teacher contacts local pediatric clinics and hospitals.
She learns that Minseo has been treated repeatedly for injuries and illnesses consistent with severe neglect.
She eventually sees the father walking with Minseo at night.
The father recognizes her.
He asks whether she is the preschool teacher who keeps interfering.
He threatens to kill her if she reports him again.
The child-protection service later says it cannot continue because the parents deny the allegations or cannot be located.
The teacher is left alone with the knowledge that Minseo remains in danger.
Images 033–040 — The limits of the TRPA¶
The teacher begs Na for help.
Na shows his identification and explains that the Teachers’ Rights Protection Agency reports directly to the Minister of Education.
That gives it strong authority in public education.
Child abuse and domestic violence are handled by police and the Ministry of Health and Welfare.
Preschool administration may also fall outside the TRPA’s direct jurisdiction.
Na cannot lawfully take custody of Minseo merely because the danger is obvious.
The teacher says that, if they do nothing, she fears Minseo will die.
Na agrees.
Images 041–044 — A plan that risks abduction charges¶
Na asks for the family’s home address.
He says they may be accused of abducting or unlawfully removing the child if they act without permission.
The teacher still gives him the information.
Na calls the police emergency number.
He says the agency’s formal power is limited, but he can report a crime as a citizen and remain present until authorities arrive.
He then approaches the apartment himself.
Images 045–049 — “I’m just a passerby”¶
The father opens the door angrily after repeated ringing.
Na supports the exhausted Minseo beside him.
The father demands to know who he is and asks whether he is another prankster.
Na smiles.
I’M JUST A PASSERBY.
He introduces himself as someone who happened to find a hungry, injured child.
The chapter ends before the father understands how dangerous this particular passerby is.

The preschool teacher acts beyond ordinary job expectations¶
Her persistence is driven by the absence of any functioning guardian or timely institution.
Minseo’s silence is survival behavior¶
He protects food, avoids answering adults, and runs because previous adult attention has led to punishment.
Jurisdiction creates a dangerous gap¶
Everyone may recognize the abuse while each organization possesses only part of the authority required to stop it.
Na begins as a reporting citizen¶
The legal limitation does not prevent him from observing, documenting, and remaining at the scene.
