The chapter contains child abuse, intimidation, food deprivation, adult fighting, loud-noise harassment, and a parent threatening to kill an inspector with a tool.
Images 001–008 — Na explains the new tenancy¶
Minseo’s father demands to know how Na entered the neighboring unit.
Na says several tenants moved out during the past year because of the noise from the abusive household.
The landlord was happy to sign a short-term rental agreement with someone willing to stay.
The father attacks.
Na blocks and throws him against the wall.
He says ordinary people solve neighbor disputes through conversation.
This household has spent so long solving everything with fists that the father assumes violence is the only available language.
Na tells him that he is especially sensitive to crying children.
Images 009–17 — The game and the locked room¶
Inside his apartment, the father plays an online game while Minseo sits nearby.
When the child cries or asks for attention, the father shouts that the noise made him lose.
He disconnects the internet or locks the child away.
Minseo says his neck hurts and begs the father to remove a restraint or open the door.
The father pounds on the room and says Minseo’s whining destroyed his game.
He blames the child for every failure.
Na enters or forces the door.
He says the father’s conduct can now be judged directly as education or abuse.
Images 18–24 — Self-interest is not discipline¶
The father insists that he is educating his own son.
Na answers:
EDUCATING MY ASS.
Education is intended for the child’s good.
Punishing a child because the parent lost a game, wants silence, or feels frustrated is abuse performed for the adult’s convenience.
Na tells the father to sit down.
He places food on a low table and orders the family to eat together.
The father initially believes the inspector has finally calmed down.
Images 25–31 — A meal becomes another test¶
Minseo eats quickly.
The father demands perfect table manners from a starving six-year-old.
When rice spills, he slams the table and says the child does not deserve food.
Na points out the absurdity.
The father is not teaching manners patiently.
He is searching for any excuse to justify anger.
Minseo begins cleaning the spill in fear.
Na tells him to keep eating.
The father becomes increasingly agitated because his ordinary control over the meal has disappeared.
Images 29–36 — Na reproduces the experience of a noisy neighbor¶
Back next door, Na creates disruptive noise:
- loud music;
- pounding;
- and deliberately irritating sounds.
The father cannot relax.
He bangs on the wall and demands silence.
Na tells him to come over if he wants to talk.
The constant disturbance gives the father a small version of the helplessness Minseo experiences every day.
The father becomes frantic.
He sees Minseo playing with a toy and accuses even the child of mocking him.
Images 37–43 — The hammer attack¶
The father sends Minseo away and takes up a hammer, axe, or similar heavy tool.
He says he is going to kill the interfering neighbor and accept prison afterward.
Na steps through the doorway before the attack can land.
The father swings.
Na evades and counters instantly.
The tool flies aside.
Na looks directly at him.
YOU’RE PATHETIC.
The chapter ends as the inspector’s strike crashes into the father and exposes how little control remains beneath his violent performance.

He never recognizes that Minseo has lived under far harsher control without the ability to leave.
