Get Schooled — Chapter 5¶
Complete detailed panel-by-panel transcription¶
Scope and accuracy note¶
This transcription follows the reading order reconstructed from the uploaded MHT: 11 reader pages containing 21 chapter strips, plus the separate cover image. Dialogue, narration, captions, credits, and legible English text are preserved as printed, including awkward phrasing, line-break-driven hyphenation, profanity, and translation quirks.
One short section on Reader Page 9 is visibly damaged inside the embedded source artwork itself. The corruption begins immediately after Ryu Kwang-pil swings a golf club at Jun-hyung and ends before the nighttime school scene. The fresh MHT contains the same damaged pixels, so the obscured frames cannot be recovered from this archive. That gap is marked precisely below; no action or dialogue has been invented.
Korean sound effects are described by their visible function when the exact Korean lettering or English equivalent is uncertain.
Reader Page 1 — The plan and the scandal¶
Opening disclaimer¶
A black screen carries the site watermark “1STKISSMANGA.IO” and a centered all-caps disclaimer:
THIS WORK IS A
FICTIONAL STORY MADE VIRTUALLY.
IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH
CERTAIN PEOPLE, ORGANIZATIONS,
RELIGIOUS GROUPS, ETC.
The severe black-and-white presentation delays the story image and gives the opening the tone of a legal notice.
Government-office conversation¶
Panel / beat 1: A speech balloon appears in darkness before the speaker is fully established:
THIS WAS THE PLAN, RIGHT?
Panel / beat 2: A hand drops or slaps a personnel file onto a polished wooden desk. The folder contains a photograph of Ryu Jun-hyung, shown with short, spiky black hair and a faint, self-assured smile. A large Korean impact sound effect beside the hand indicates the file landing sharply.
Panel / beat 3: The speaker continues while the framing begins to reveal a formal office:
WHAT IF WE CATCH A SCHOOL WITH THE SON OF A MEMBER OF THE CONGRESS IN THE HISTORIC FIRST MISSION?
The wording treats the school not merely as a disciplinary case but as a politically useful test case for the newly created program.
Panel / beat 4: Na Hwa-jin sits loosely in a wooden armchair. He wears an entirely black outfit—black suit jacket, black shirt, and black trousers. His long, disordered hair falls over his eyes; one hand is lifted in a casual, almost theatrical gesture. Behind him, a broad-shouldered older official in a dark business suit stands with his back partly turned. The contrast is immediate: Na looks relaxed and irreverent, while the official occupies the room like a senior bureaucrat.
BUT THE TEACHERS WON’T COOPERATE BECAUSE THEY’RE SCARED OF HIS FATHER.
Panel / beat 5: Close-up on the older official’s lower face. He has a heavy mustache and beard and holds a thick cigar between his teeth. He lights it with an expensive-looking gold lighter.
I ALSO CAN’T TAKE RESPONSIBILITY IF IT WERE TO TURN INTO A POLITICAL PROBLEM.
A vertical Korean flame/flick sound effect accompanies the lighter.
Panel / beat 6: The official turns slightly in the foreground while Na, farther back, spreads his hands as if the objection is beside the point.
DON’T TAKE THAT INTO ACCOUNT AND JUST DO WHAT YOU HAVE TO DO!
The line is directed at Na: he is being told not to calculate the political consequences and simply perform the assigned intervention.
Panel / beat 7: Extreme close-up of the official’s cigar and grin. The ember glows. His expression is confident rather than worried.
THOSE ARE JUST TRIVIAL THINGS…
Panel / beat 8: In a large isolated balloon over a white-to-gray gradient, the official concludes:
I WILL TAKE CARE OF IT!
The statement implies that the political protection surrounding the mission has already been arranged.
The scandal breaks¶
Panel / beat 9: A television news broadcast fills the frame. A male news anchor sits against a blue studio background. The station mark reads “JTV뉴스”. A lower-third headline states:
REP. RYU KWANG-PIL’S SCANDAL,
SEXUAL HARASSMENT, BRIBERY…
The broadcast publicly destroys the political shield that Jun-hyung expected to remain permanent.
Panel / beat 10: Close-up on Jun-hyung. His face is drained and slick with sweat; his eyes are stretched wide, with heavy gray shading beneath them. His mouth hangs open in disbelief.
FA…
FATHER…?
Panel / beat 11: A brown-haired student stands in front of Jun-hyung and holds up a smartphone displaying the same television report. Na can be seen standing farther behind them, dressed in black. Jun-hyung is viewed from the back, his spiky hair filling the foreground.
N… NO,
SOMETHING’S NOT RIGHT
WITH THIS!
Panel / beat 12: The page ends on the beginning of a close-up of Na’s face. His long hair shadows his eyes, and the visible corner of his mouth suggests a restrained, knowing smile. The composition implies that the scandal is not a coincidence from Na’s perspective.
Reader Page 2 — Jun-hyung’s private history begins¶
Immediate reaction¶
Panel / beat 1: The close-up of Na completes. He looks toward Jun-hyung with an unreadable half-smile. No dialogue is printed; the silence makes him appear unsurprised by the news.
Panel / beat 2: Jun-hyung shouts, still unable to process the collapse of his father’s status:
WHY IS MY FATHER…!
Panel / beat 3: A large, muscular student with a shaved head and black ear gauges leans toward Jun-hyung. He wears a black hoodie. His eyes are wide and his posture is predatory rather than sympathetic.
SO, JUN-HYUNG…
Panel / beat 4: The shaved-headed student places a hand on Jun-hyung’s shoulder and pushes his face very close. One side of the older boy’s face is swallowed by black shadow, making the grin look grotesque. Jun-hyung turns his eyes toward him, sweating.
A black thought balloon reads:
WHAT SHOULD I MAKE OF THIS?
The line belongs to Jun-hyung’s internal narration and marks the beginning of a retrospective explanation.
Chapter title and credits¶
Panel / beat 5: The Korean series title “참교육” appears over the silhouette of a man holding a disciplinary baton or pointer. The YLAB logo is shown beneath it. Korean credits identify:
- Story: Chae Yong-taek
- Art: Han Ga-ram
The page fades from white into black as the flashback begins.
Home: valued only as a political extension¶
Panel / beat 6: A rectangular narration box states:
I WAS TREATED LIKE GARBAGE AT HOME.
A younger Jun-hyung, wearing a dark sleeveless shirt and beige shorts, is thrown violently onto a bed or padded surface. His body folds at the waist, one hand grabbing his thigh as he cries out. Dense motion lines and a large Korean impact effect make the movement feel like a hard strike rather than ordinary punishment.
Jun-hyung’s father yells from off-panel:
DIDN’T I TELL YOU TO STUDY BETTER?!
Panel / beat 7: The father is revealed standing over him. Ryu Kwang-pil is broad, muscular, and dressed in a navy polo shirt tucked into white trousers. He grips a golf club like a weapon. Jun-hyung’s mother, in a light dress, clings to his arm and tries to pull him back.
WHAT’S WRONG WITH RYU KWANG-PIL’S SON’S GRADES? OH!
The father does not criticize Jun-hyung as an individual child; he frames the grades as an insult to the public identity of “Ryu Kwang-pil’s son.”
The mother pleads:
HONEY…
PLEASE STOP!
Panel / beat 8: Jun-hyung looks up from the floor, terrified and sweating, while the father turns his fury toward the mother.
YOU’RE NO BETTER! DON’T YOU KNOW HOW TO EDUCATE YOUR SON?!
A narration box follows:
I WAS AN UNBELIEVABLE EMBARRASSMENT TO MY FATHER, A LOCAL CONGRESSMAN AND LAWMAKER.
Panel / beat 9: The page ends with another narration box against black:
BUT THAT WASN’T THE CASE OUTSIDE.
The transition establishes the central contradiction in Jun-hyung’s upbringing: humiliation at home, absolute privilege everywhere else.
Reader Page 3 — How privilege taught Jun-hyung to enjoy cruelty¶
Adults reward the connection¶
Panel / beat 1: A teacher bends over the seated younger Jun-hyung and pats his hair with false warmth. Jun-hyung’s smile is uneasy and guarded.
HOW’S YOUR FATHER? TALK ABOUT YOUR TEACHER TO HIM SOMETIMES. ALRIGHT?
The teacher’s interest is openly transactional: Jun-hyung is valuable as access to a politician.
Panel / beat 2: A group of boys crowds around Jun-hyung’s desk, smiling and leaning toward him with exaggerated friendliness.
YOUR FATHER’S A CONGRESSMAN!
OH! YOU HAVE IT EASY! YOU MUST HAVE A HECK OF A LIFE AT HOME, TOO!
The irony is severe because the reader has just seen the violence inside that supposedly easy home.
Social power becomes sadism¶
Panel / beat 3: A narration box reads:
EVERYONE BOWED DOWN TO ME BECAUSE OF MY FATHER.
Jun-hyung, now older and wearing a black hoodie with red striping, stands outside the school with a cigarette between his fingers. He rests one heavy black sneaker on the head or upper body of a student lying face-down at his feet. Two companions watch from behind—one smiling, one filming with a phone.
A second narration box states:
IN SCHOOL, I EVEN ENJOYED MORE POWER THAN MY FATHER HIMSELF.
The low camera angle makes Jun-hyung look enormous while the victim is reduced to a surface beneath his shoe.
Panel / beat 4: Close-up of the thick sole pressing into the victim’s face.
I NEVER LET ANYONE GO UNSCATHED IF THEY CHALLENGED MY AUTHORITY.
Panel / beat 5: A partially obscured victim’s face is pinned to the floor. Jun-hyung’s narration continues over deep black space:
SEEING A PERSON CRUMBLE UNDER MY COMMAND LIKE A BUG…
Panel / beat 6: Extreme close-up on Jun-hyung’s smile. His eyes are pale and distant, his grin narrow and satisfied.
IT WAS MY GREATEST PLEASURE.
Panel / beat 7: The next narration box creates a pause:
THERE WAS JUST ONE PROBLEM.
Panel / beat 8: A dark, blurred image evokes a body falling or the aftermath of a fatal drop. The motion is shown indirectly rather than as a clear corpse.
A BUG THAT I WAS PLAYING WITH COMMITTED SUICIDE.
The dehumanizing word “bug” is retained in the narration, showing that even after the death Jun-hyung still categorizes the victim as an object.
Summoned after the death¶
Panel / beat 9: A hallway sign reads:
COUNSELING ROOM
Jun-hyung, in a white school shirt and black tie, hesitates with his hand on the doorknob. Sweat beads on his cheek. The page ends before he enters.
Reader Page 4 — The moment he learns there are no consequences¶
Fear outside the counseling room¶
Panel / beat 1: Jun-hyung’s hand trembles on the door handle. A repeated vertical Korean trembling sound effect runs beside him.
A narration box states:
THERE’S A POLICE OFFICER IN THERE.
Panel / beat 2: Close-up of Jun-hyung’s anxious profile. His eye is narrowed toward the door, and sweat runs down his face.
IF MY FATHER FINDS OUT ABOUT THIS, HE’LL KILL ME.
The fear is not remorse for the dead student. He is afraid of his father’s reaction and the possibility that the private abuse at home will worsen.
The police treat him as a VIP¶
Panel / beat 3: Jun-hyung opens the counseling-room door with a Korean creaking sound effect. Inside, two uniformed police officers sit casually, separated from the room by decorative folding screens.
One officer gestures toward the seat:
SIT COMFORTABLY.
Panel / beat 4: Both officers smile. Their body language is relaxed and ingratiating, not investigative.
YOU’RE THE SON OF REP. RYU KWANG-PIL, RIGHT?
Panel / beat 5: Jun-hyung sits stiffly between their dark silhouettes. The officers continue:
THIS IS JUST A FORMALITY, SO SIT DOWN FOR AT LEAST 10 MINUTES.
SO, HOW’S YOUR FATHER?
The dead student and the allegations are not mentioned. The officers care more about maintaining the appearance of an interview and establishing political familiarity.
The lesson Jun-hyung takes from it¶
Panel / beat 6: A narration box reads:
THEN, I REALIZED.
Panel / beat 7: Another narration box follows over black:
I’LL BE FORGIVEN NO MATTER WHAT I DO AT SCHOOL.
Panel / beat 8: Close-up of Jun-hyung’s face. The fear has disappeared. His eyes widen and a small, warped smile forms.
AT SCHOOL, I’M A KING!
Panel / beat 9: A white-to-gray fade interrupts the triumphant memory:
THAT’S HOW IT SHOULD BE…
Panel / beat 10: Jun-hyung is returned to the present. He sits on the school floor, shoulders collapsed and head bowed, surrounded by the legs of students who once served him. His clothes are disordered, his body damp with sweat, and his hands hang between his knees.
SO, HOW DID THINGS END UP LIKE THIS?
Panel / beat 11: At the very bottom, one of the former followers begins speaking from above him:
FUCK! YOU’RE REALLY NOTHING WITHOUT YOUR FATHER…
Reader Page 5 — His followers turn on him¶
The hierarchy reverses¶
Panel / beat 1: The shaved-headed student stands directly over Jun-hyung with both hands in his pockets. He now wears a white sweatshirt with a large multicolored wing-like design across the chest. Another boy in a black jacket with red stripes stands behind him, while additional students gather in the corridor.
The first line from the previous page completes:
FUCK! YOU’RE REALLY NOTHING WITHOUT YOUR FATHER…
Panel / beat 2: The shaved-headed boy continues, looking down with casual disgust:
AH! WHEN I THINK ABOUT WHAT I’VE BEEN DOING FOR YOU SO FAR, IT’S REALLY…
The unfinished sentence implies resentment over every favor, assault, and act of obedience performed while Jun-hyung was protected.
Panel / beat 3: Close-up of Jun-hyung’s mouth. He grinds his teeth; saliva and sweat gather around his lips. A Korean grinding sound effect appears beside his jaw.
YOU’RE MAKING A MISTAKE, MOTHERFUCKER!
Panel / beat 4: The two leading boys glance at each other, momentarily surprised by his confidence.
Panel / beat 5: Jun-hyung raises his head. His face is wet with sweat, but he tries to restore the expression of someone issuing a threat.
DID YOU SEE THE CONGRESSMAN HIMSELF GOING TO JAIL?
Panel / beat 6: The shaved-headed boy turns in profile and listens with a faint smirk.
AFTER THREE OR FOUR FUCKING MONTHS, THEY WOULD’VE ALREADY BURIED THE CASE!
WHEN THAT HAPPENS, I’LL BURY ALL OF YOU!
Jun-hyung assumes that the scandal will disappear through the same political machinery that protected him before.
Panel / beat 7: A hand strikes Jun-hyung across the face. A large Korean slap/impact effect explodes beside his cheek. His head snaps sideways.
Panel / beat 8: The shaved-headed boy walks away laughing, one hand near his ear, while Jun-hyung remains seated behind him.
MOTHERFUCKER, WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT? HAHA HAHAHA
The laughter confirms that Jun-hyung’s threats no longer carry social weight.
Rage without power¶
Panel / beat 9: Close-up of Jun-hyung’s stunned, sweating face. The cheek that was struck is reddened and marked.
KILL…
Panel / beat 10: His expression empties into a dissociated stare.
I’LL KILL THEM ALL.
Panel / beat 11: The corridor door creaks. Jun-hyung’s thought continues:
ALL THE BASTARDS THAT HAVE MESSED WITH ME…
Panel / beat 12: From inside the nearby restroom, Na complains in an almost comic tone:
AH~ YOU KIDS ARE TOO LOUD!
Panel / beat 13: A hand takes hold of a toilet-paper roll, revealing that Na has been in a restroom stall throughout the confrontation.
Reader Page 6 — Na refuses to save him from the consequences¶
Na emerges from the restroom¶
Panel / beat 1: Na steps out near the sinks, still adjusting his trousers with one hand and holding toilet paper in the other. He looks tired and irritated rather than alarmed.
I HAVE TO LOOSEN MY SPHINCTER, BUT I CAN’T CONCENTRATE!
The deliberately crude line punctures Jun-hyung’s melodramatic rage.
Panel / beat 2: Na looks toward the battered Jun-hyung and clicks his tongue.
TSK, TSK, TSK… YOU LOST EVERYTHING YOU HAD JUST BECAUSE YOUR FAMILY GOT RUINED.
The wording is blunt: Jun-hyung never possessed personal loyalty or respect; he possessed borrowed authority.
Panel / beat 3: Jun-hyung turns sharply toward Na.
HEY, KID. WHY DIDN’T YOU MAKE ANY GOOD FRIENDS?
Panel / beat 4: Jun-hyung springs to his feet and shouts across the restroom entrance while Na calmly faces the sink.
WHAT, YOU WERE LISTENING ALL THIS TIME?!
Panel / beat 5: Jun-hyung charges closer, accusing him:
THEN WHY DIDN’T YOU STOP THEM! YOU’RE A TERRIBLE TEACHER!
YOU USUALLY DO MORE FOR LESS, YOU FUCKER!
Jun-hyung expects Na to use force on his behalf because he has seen Na intervene violently in other situations. Even while being victimized, he still frames assistance as something he is entitled to demand.
“Washing my hands”¶
Panel / beat 6: Na turns on the faucet. Water runs over his hand with a Korean water sound effect.
WHY? IT’S NOT MY BUSINESS ANYMORE.
Panel / beat 7: Na holds both wet hands up loosely while the toilet-paper roll hangs from one wrist. His expression is almost bored.
I’M WASHING MY HANDS OF THIS SCHOOL, AS OF TODAY.
The image literalizes the idiom: he is physically washing his hands as he announces the end of his assignment.
Official departure and false normality¶
Panel / beat 8: Exterior of the school at sunset. Warm orange light falls over the empty courtyard.
AS OF TODAY, THE IN-SCHOOL GUIDANCE OF THE OFFICE OF PROTECTION HAS BEEN COMPLETED.
THERE WILL BE NO MORE RECKLESS CORPORAL PUNISHMENT IN THE FUTURE, AND THE SCHOOL WILL RETURN TO NORMAL.
The phrase “return to normal” is ominous because the school’s normal state was the culture that allowed Dae-seok’s abuse and death.
Panel / beat 9: Back in a classroom, a bespectacled male teacher stands at the lectern. The students are already talking, turning around, and celebrating. A purple-haired boy at the side grins toward his classmates. Small informal lettering beside him reads approximately:
Oh, no, they said it’s finished!
The teacher addresses them:
THERE MUST BE A LOT OF THINGS YOU’VE ALL REALIZED FROM THIS, RIGHT?
DO YOU THINK YOU CAN NOW FOLLOW THE TEACHERS’ GUIDANCE SO THAT THIS DOESN’T HAPPEN EVER AGAIN?
His hopeful question is visually undercut by the students’ immediate return to noisy disorder.
Reader Page 7 — “Normal” means the bullying simply finds a new target¶
The classroom slips back¶
Panel / beat 1: Students cheer, laugh, and raise their arms. The teacher’s face is drawn with circular glasses and an exhausted, anxious stare.
KEEP QUIET! YOU, KIDS!
Panel / beat 2: Close-up of a quiet student wearing round glasses, a navy vest, white shirt, and red tie. A bead of sweat runs down his cheek. His narration begins:
TEACHER NA HWA-JIN LEFT THE SCHOOL…
Panel / beat 3: A narration box reads:
SOONER OR LATER, AS I FEARED,
A sheet of paper is taped to the back of a black hoodie. Its handwritten message reads:
I am an outcast.
Please give me a blow
to the back of the
head!
A second narration box completes the thought:
THE SCHOOL’S TRADITIONAL CULTURE WAS REVIVED.
Jun-hyung becomes the outcast¶
Panel / beat 4: Jun-hyung walks alone through a crowded hallway wearing the marked black hoodie. His fists are clenched. Students on both sides whisper, point, laugh, and recoil performatively as he passes. His eyes are lowered and the dark circles beneath them deepen.
Panel / beat 5: Close-up of Jun-hyung’s expression. He looks exhausted and numb, no longer able to intimidate the spectators.
Panel / beat 6: A purple-haired student launches himself from behind with one knee raised.
FLYING KNEE-KICK!
Panel / beat 7: The knee crashes into Jun-hyung’s upper back or head. A huge Korean impact effect fills the panel. Jun-hyung is thrown forward.
Panel / beat 8: Jun-hyung tumbles onto the corridor floor with a Korean crash effect. The attacker lands upright nearby while other students watch from a classroom doorway.
Panel / beat 9: A hand grips the back of Jun-hyung’s hood or neck and pulls him up. One of the former followers taunts him:
WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO? CAN’T YOU EVEN CONTROL YOUR FACE?
Panel / beat 10: The purple-haired bully crouches over him with a manic smile.
WHY? BECAUSE YOU WERE PICKED ON BY A FRESHMAN?
YOU SAID THAT, DIDN’T YOU? DON’T TREAT ME LIKE YOU!
The insult mirrors the contempt Jun-hyung previously directed at weaker students.
Panel / beat 11: The bully notices the garment and grabs at it.
HOLD ON, YOU’RE WEARING AN EXPENSIVE HOODIE, AREN’T YOU?
The page ends on Jun-hyung’s alarmed face and the bully’s fist tightening in the fabric.
Reader Page 8 — Bullying, public exposure, and violence at home¶
They strip him of the last status object¶
Panel / beat 1: Close-up of the colorful splatter-patterned hoodie as hands pull at it.
Panel / beat 2: A student with a large backpack approaches from farther down the corridor. Ahead of him, several boys surround Jun-hyung on the floor.
TAKE IT OFF! TAKE IT OFF NOW!
HAHAHA. IT’S VERY EXPENSIVE.
The students are not merely assaulting him; they are confiscating the luxury item that still marks his former class position.
Panel / beat 3: A narration box states:
IT WAS JUST THAT THE TARGET OF THE BULLYING WAS CHANGED TO RYU JUN-HYUNG, WHO WAS THE OUTCAST OF THE SECOND GRADE.
The quiet glasses-wearing student is shown frontally beneath the narration, his expression calm but resigned. He recognizes that the institution did not eliminate bullying—it redirected it.
Panel / beat 4: Exterior of a large modern house surrounded by trees, with the city visible beyond it.
BUT IT DIDN’T END THERE.
His father attacks him over the news¶
Panel / beat 5: A fist or golf-club strike slams into Jun-hyung’s face with a large Korean impact effect.
Panel / beat 6: Jun-hyung falls sideways, one hand pressed to his cheek. A yellow-headed golf club is visible in his father’s hand.
WHA… WHAT’S WRONG? FATHER!
His nose and mouth are already bleeding.
Panel / beat 7: The father stands over him, gripping the club and pointing furiously.
WHAT’S WRONG? YOU DON’T THINK I KNOW?!
YOU MOTHERFUCKER! WHAT’S THIS?!
A television plays behind him.
Television report about Jun-hyung¶
Panel / beat 8: A news caption begins:
NEXT, ON THE NEWS.
REP. RYU KWANG-PIL’S SON, MR. R…
Jun-hyung looks up in shock.
Panel / beat 9: The female anchor appears beside a blurred image of Jun-hyung raising a hand in an aggressive gesture.
APPEARED IN A VIDEO THAT SHOWED HIM COMMITTING VIOLENCE AT SCHOOL AND THROWING ABUSIVE WORDS AT TEACHERS.
Panel / beat 10: The report continues over the television:
THE POST IS NOW SPREADING LIKE WILDFIRE THROUGH THE ONLINE COMMUNITY AND SNS.
Panel / beat 11: A final caption at the bottom of the reader page states:
ACCORDING TO THE POST, MR. R CONTINUED TO USE THE AUTHORITY OF HIS FATHER IN ORDER TO ASSAULT HIS CLASSMATES.
Reader Page 9 — The family scandal detonates¶
The report links him to Dae-seok’s death¶
Panel / beat 1: Close-up of Jun-hyung’s battered face under vertical rain-like shading. His left cheek is bruised; blood runs from his nose and lower lip. He stares at the television in a state of total shock.
AND AS A RESULT, THE POST CLAIMS THAT MR. R DROVE ANOTHER STUDENT TO COMMIT SUICIDE.
The sentence makes public what the school, police, and family had treated as manageable private information.
Reporters arrive¶
Panel / beat 2: Wide overhead view of the living room. Jun-hyung sits on the floor. His father stands with the golf club, while an aide in a dark suit rushes toward them.
CONGRESSMAN, THERE’S A NEWS CONFERENCE COMING TO YOUR HOUSE RIGHT NOW!
The scanlation appears to use “news conference” for a crowd of press/reporters arriving at the residence.
Ryu Kwang-pil shouts:
GAH! DON’T LET A SINGLE REPORTER COME IN!
Panel / beat 3: The father raises the golf club high over his shoulder, his face contorted with rage.
YOU DISGRACEFUL LITTLE BASTARD!
A large Korean swinging sound effect follows the club’s arc.
Source-image corruption¶
Corrupted interval: Immediately after the raised-club panel, a section of the embedded image is replaced by repeating pixel-like symbols and damaged blocks. The intended impact panel, Jun-hyung’s reaction, and any text that may have occupied this region are not legible. The corruption is present in the source strip itself.
What can be stated safely from the intact frames:
- The father has begun a downward golf-club swing toward Jun-hyung.
- The next intact sequence occurs later, at the school during nighttime.
- No recoverable dialogue is visible between these moments.
Transition to the school at night¶
Panel / beat 4: A pale, desaturated view through a school window shows dark clouds and an apartment building outside. The faint, washed-out lighting establishes a late-night or pre-dawn setting.
Panel / beat 5: Only a small upper fragment of the next action remains before the strip transitions into a uniform gray spacer. The gray block contains no text or artwork and appears to be an intentional page-length separator after the damaged source area.
Reader Page 10 — Jun-hyung attempts arson¶
Gasoline through the school¶
Panel / beat 1: Liquid splashes across the floor from a red plastic fuel can. A Korean splash sound effect overlays the panel.
Panel / beat 2: Jun-hyung stands in a dark school corridor holding the red can. His face is covered in bruises and abrasions from his father’s beating. Gasoline pours from the opening and spreads across the floor. The dim blue-gray palette and tilted perspective make him look unstable and isolated.
Panel / beat 3: Close-up of Jun-hyung’s exhausted, unfocused face.
KILL…
KILL…
KILL…!
Panel / beat 4: He drops one fuel can onto the floor with a Korean thud sound effect.
Panel / beat 5: A wider corridor view reveals several red fuel containers gathered around him.
SO FAR, NO ONE’S EVER BEEN SAFE AFTER TOUCHING ME!
The line shows that he still interprets retaliation as the natural law of his existence.
Panel / beat 6: Jun-hyung pours gasoline against classroom doors and along the corridor wall.
I’M GOING TO BURN ALL THOSE FUCKERS IN THE MORNING…
At the far right edge, a dark figure—Na—stands concealed in the shadow beside a doorway, watching him.
Na stops the attempt¶
Panel / beat 7: A black shoe strikes the side of a red gasoline can just as Jun-hyung reaches for it. A huge Korean impact effect dominates the frame. Jun-hyung’s eyes widen as the container is driven back into him.
Panel / beat 8: Jun-hyung crashes onto the corridor floor with the fuel can against his upper body. Gasoline splashes outward. Na stands in the foreground, long hair falling down his back.
Panel / beat 9: Jun-hyung sits up, furious and disoriented. Na speaks from off-panel:
YOU’RE JUST A KID WHO’S BEEN DELUDED TO THE BONES!
YOU STILL DON’T KNOW WHAT YOU DID WRONG, DO YOU?
The accusation targets the worldview beneath the arson attempt: Jun-hyung believes his suffering is proof that others deserve punishment, not evidence that his own behavior created enemies.
The real lesson begins¶
Panel / beat 10: Close-up of Na’s mouth and hand. A cigarette rests between his lips as he flicks open a metal lighter. A Korean click sound effect appears beside it, and the flame rises.
A black balloon reads:
FROM NOW ON,
The flame creates a deliberate visual echo of the gasoline Jun-hyung spread, but Na controls the fire calmly rather than unleashing it.
Reader Page 11 — Cliffhanger¶
Panel / beat 1: Against a white field, a black hand-drawn balloon completes Na’s sentence:
LET’S BEGIN YOUR TRUE EDUCATION!
Panel / beat 2: Full, low-angle portrait of Na. The lighter burns in front of his chest, illuminating the underside of his face and adding orange highlights to his long black hair. A cigarette hangs from one corner of his mouth. His amber-brown eyes are fully visible and fixed on Jun-hyung. The expression is intense but controlled—far different from Jun-hyung’s unfocused murderous stare.
The chapter ends before showing what Na means by “true education,” using the open flame beside spilled gasoline as both a literal danger and a threat-laden visual cliffhanger.
End-card and production text¶
At the bottom of the strip, an English recruitment notice reads:
We are recruiting typesetter and cleaner
Korean staff/production text appears beside the YLAB logo.
Chapter-level continuity and visual observations¶
1. The opening reveals that the political collapse was planned protection, not luck¶
The first office conversation reframes the end of Chapter 4. The intervention team deliberately selected a school connected to a congressman for its first historic mission. The senior official’s promise—“I will take care of it!”—is followed immediately by the televised destruction of Ryu Kwang-pil’s reputation. The sequence strongly implies that Na entered the school knowing Jun-hyung’s political shield would be removed at the decisive moment.
2. Jun-hyung learned two incompatible lessons at home and outside¶
At home, his father treated him as a defective extension of a political brand. Outside, teachers, classmates, and even police treated him as untouchable. The chapter presents his cruelty as learned entitlement without excusing it: he was abused privately, then rewarded publicly whenever he reproduced that domination against weaker people.
3. The counseling-room scene is the psychological turning point¶
Jun-hyung enters believing the police may expose him to his father’s punishment. Instead, the officers smile, ask about the congressman, and call the interview a formality. His conclusion is explicit: “I’ll be forgiven no matter what I do at school.” The close-up that follows shows fear transforming into pleasure. Institutional corruption does not merely conceal his behavior; it teaches him that cruelty is proof of kingship.
4. Removing one protected bully does not reform the school culture¶
After Na departs, teachers announce that the school will “return to normal.” The very next sequence shows that normality: humiliation notes, public assault, theft, and spectatorship. The only structural change is the identity of the victim. The narration states this directly—bullying has not ended; the target has changed to Jun-hyung.
5. Jun-hyung experiences victimization without developing empathy¶
Even after being beaten, stripped, mocked, and abandoned, Jun-hyung does not connect his suffering to what he inflicted on Dae-seok and others. He demands that Na protect him, threatens revenge when his father returns, and ultimately prepares to burn the school. Na’s question—“You still don’t know what you did wrong, do you?”—names the core failure more precisely than any physical punishment could.
6. Fire is used as a contrast between uncontrolled revenge and controlled authority¶
Jun-hyung floods the corridor with gasoline while repeating “Kill.” Na later produces a small, steady lighter flame. Both characters hold the ability to ignite the school, but the imagery distinguishes them: Jun-hyung is surrounded by spilled fuel and emotional chaos; Na holds the flame deliberately and announces the beginning of instruction. The chapter ends before revealing whether the flame is used literally, psychologically, or as intimidation.
7. The damaged source interval does not interrupt the main causal sequence¶
Although the embedded artwork is corrupted immediately after the father’s golf-club swing, the intact material before and after establishes the chapter’s progression: the report exposes Jun-hyung, Ryu Kwang-pil attacks him in rage, and Jun-hyung later enters the school with gasoline. No dialogue or specific intervening action has been supplied beyond what remains visible.
