Opening — Lee Ho-sung returns to G.Y headquarters¶
Lee Ho-sung boasts that the gang does not understand who he is.
He calls himself Guwon’s hidden “dark horse.”
He admits privately that he ran away earlier because he was frightened, but says he remembered the building so he could return when the branch was vulnerable.
Jang Kwon-hyuk had to drag or pressure him into coming. Once they arrive, Ho-sung acts as if the attack was his plan.
Gang members laugh that only two students came to the headquarters of their enemy.
Kwon-hyuk fights the adult enforcers¶
The gang attacks.
Na’s separate confrontation with an adult fighter also continues through the chapter’s parallel action.
The adult observes that Na appears to have learned primarily through real fighting rather than formal martial arts.
Na replies that such experience was accumulated by beating many innocent people.
He asks whether the man has fallen so low that he now hides behind children and steals their allowances.
The adults are not the bosses¶
The fighter denies operating the internet-gambling network.
He says he is simply a brute who uses his fists and cannot organize something so complicated.
“THOSE KIDS ARE THE BOSSES AND WE ARE THE BRUTES.”
The older men may be addressed as hyung-nim because of age, but strategically they serve the students controlling G.Y.
The revelation shocks both Na and the Guwon students. The adults are not using teenagers as cover for an adult business; the youth organization has subordinated existing gangs.
How a high-school student united the gangs¶
Two years earlier, G.Y’s president wanted to test his strength.
While still a second-year high-school student, he charged alone into gang offices across the area.
Within one week, he defeated the major adult gangs.
The organization’s members compare him to legendary teenage gang figures and describe him as an almost fictional “ultra badass.”
Their reactions convince Na that the story is substantially true.
G.Y tries to recruit Kwon-hyuk¶
A branch representative tells Kwon-hyuk that he has the qualities G.Y values:
- charisma from once dominating Guwon,
- the courage to challenge stronger opponents,
- and the persistence to keep fighting after repeated defeats.
The representative says gambling is only the current business.
Future plans include drugs and expansion into more territories.
If Kwon-hyuk joins, he will earn far more than his current salary and could buy a house within a year.
The entire country could become his playground.
Kwon-hyuk rejects the fantasy¶
Kwon-hyuk listens until he can no longer tolerate the speech.
He says it sounds childish and ridiculous.
“DID YOUR MOM SAY SHE’LL BUY YOU A LOLLIPOP IF THE COUNTRY IS YOUR PLAYGROUND?”
He identifies himself:
“I’M GUWON’S JANG KWON-HYUK.”
He says he does not care whether the opponent is called a gangster.
“YOU’LL DIE WITH A SINGLE PUNCH OF MINE!”
The chapter ends as he launches his attack against the organization that corrupted his friends.

Teenagers command adults because the president defeated them and then supplied a profitable organization.
2. The recruitment pitch targets Kwon-hyuk’s old identity¶

The promise of a house and instant wealth no longer attracts him enough to abandon the life he began rebuilding.

He returns to help, but still relies on Kwon-hyuk’s strength and rewrites his earlier fear as strategy.
