Opening — The gang protects the president’s identity¶
Na interrogates the defeated adult enforcers.
They say they do not personally know the high-school president’s identity and have never greeted him directly.
Only the branch manager, Lee Jung-hyuk, normally communicates with the president.
Na remembers the tattoo described by Kwon-hyuk: a girl’s face and the initials G.Y.
The image and initials feel familiar, but he has not yet completed the connection.
The president uses baseball as a weapon¶
At G.Y headquarters, the organization’s young president plays with Jang Kwon-hyuk rather than finishing him immediately.
He throws baseballs with the technique and vocabulary of a trained pitcher.
He explains how accurately placed baseballs become dangerous weapons when thrown by an athlete.
He demonstrates different pitches:
- a forkball that drops unexpectedly,
- a fast, straight throw,
- and an “ultra laser fastball.”
The balls strike Kwon-hyuk and the surrounding men with brutal force.
The president laughs that the fight is entertaining and jokes about only playing Teemo at top lane, treating real violence with the language of a game.
Kwon-hyuk is shown the money¶
The president decides Kwon-hyuk has had enough of the “stick” and offers the “carrot.”
He opens a room or container filled with cash.
The money was taken from the children who screamed, begged, and gambled through the G.Y network—including Jo Hong-gi.
The visible pile is only pocket change.
The total money students send to recharge gambling coins is said to be at least one hundred times larger.
The president tells Kwon-hyuk that if he gives the green light, the money and business can become his.
With it, his mother could buy an entire ice-cream factory rather than a single treat.
Kwon-hyuk refuses again¶
Kwon-hyuk answers immediately.
The president asks whether he should not think more carefully when so much money is involved.
Kwon-hyuk says he might have been tempted in the past.
Now the Teachers’ Rights Protection Agency is moving. G.Y’s gambling branch will be destroyed, so the offer is not only immoral but strategically worthless.
The president is irritated by Kwon-hyuk’s faith in the agency.
He admits that an advisor already warned him to find a scapegoat and withdraw.
Kwon-hyuk hears the word “scapegoat” and understands that the students and branch members were always disposable.
The president tests the agency’s reputation¶
The young leader asks whether the agency is truly as extraordinary as everyone claims.
Is it some max-level warrior from another world?
Kwon-hyuk tells him to ask the person behind him.
A sudden attack defeats one of the president’s strongest adult men with extraordinary speed.
The gang realizes that Na has reached the headquarters.
Kwon-hyuk pays Guwon’s debt¶
Before Na finishes the confrontation, Kwon-hyuk insists on settling what happened to the students himself.
He says it is only a matter of time before the teacher arrives, but until then he will repay Guwon’s debt with his fists.
The president attacks back and says he is not merely a weak eccentric who can throw baseballs.
His ability to defeat adult gangs is real.
During the clash, Na sees the president’s palm or tattoo clearly.
The design contains a woman’s face and the letters G.Y.
Na whispers the name the initials represent:
“GA… YOON…?”
The chapter ends as the private memory behind G.Y becomes explicit.
Chapter-level observations¶
1. Baseball training became criminal force¶
The president converts an athletic skill into a tool for domination after losing his legitimate path in the sport.
2. The cash pile is recruitment theater¶
Like the gambling balance shown to students, the physical money is designed to overwhelm judgment and make crime appear concrete and successful.
3. Kwon-hyuk’s trust in the agency is part of his reform¶
He rejects the offer not only because of fear, but because he now believes the adults who helped him will act.
4. G.Y is a memorial transformed into desecration¶
The initials point to Choi Ga-yoon, a woman whose relationship to Na and the president is revealed in the following chapters.
